"When you come to the edge of all the light you know, and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly."
Mary's P.O.V.
As the sky cried it's last tears, a fog of magic lingered in the air, covering the small town with a glint of hope and the sun rays fought to shine through the smouldering clouds. And just then, the sky illuminated a colour never seen before. Half the sky was violet with a hint of indigo blue that hung on its sides. The windows of the houses held and clung onto shimmering stars, allowing it's inhabitants to truly embrace the magic of nature beyond comparison.
The entire village was surrounded by big oak trees, and its roots hung deep in the grounds creating the foundations of life. The canopy of the trees loomed over the village, offering protection and security. The streets were blanketed with several sheets of snow which left trails of footsteps, ranging from the smallest of feets to the largest.
Children ran among the streets followed by laughter which echoed in every corner. The last of the leaves whispered around the neighbourhood whilst the wind blew a fresh winter breeze.
I walked on the intertwining streets, gazing at the beauty of it all until something hit me right in the face shattering my trail of thoughts. I stood still with a confused expression and looked around dazedly.
I saw a small little boy with a dazzling smile and long brown hair covering his eyes. Ah Peter, he was around 9 years old and was named the naughtiest boy in our town, but me and peter had a very special bond. We both understood each other fully, the other adults didn't seem to want to understand him but hey it was their loss. At this very moment, he was running around me screaming, "I got you, I got you good". I looked down at him, and smiled lazily. "Yes, you got me, shame on me for not being prepared. I'll be ready for you next time, just you watch."
He ran of laughing leaving me alone on the street again. But I wasn't alone. In the corner of my eye, I saw a sudden movement in the leaves. I've always had a good eye for these sort of things. I stopped dead in my tracks and looked in the direction of the movement. I saw nothing, just the trees swaying in the wind looking as if they were ready to fall at any minute.
I paced forward, feeling the tension grow in the air surrounding me. I had a really bad feeling about this. It was only last week that someone got mugged in our area and the woman was left there on the streets to die. I mean to think of it, the incident didn't happen far from where I was standing and the community was told to be wary of walking out alone in the dark. Besides, the sun was still setting so I guess I was fine. You know the weird bit of it all, was that the woman who got mugged, didn't have anything valuable stolen from her. What I mean is that she still had her watch, her rings, her wallet. To come to think of it, I didn't even think she had anything stolen of her. But her condition after the incident said a completely different story. She was left badly shaken and unable to talk for days. Yet even after that, she still wasn't the same. She wasn't the same old Barbara who was always poking her nose into everything. Instead a frail old lady was left in her place, who rarely smiled and screamed at anyone who tried to give her a helping hand. Maybe the mugging struck a nerve or maybe it was something else.....
I was brought back to attention again as I heard a noise near the icy lake. No it was someone sobbing, a little girl maybe. I edged closer to the lake, as my maternal drive kicked in. I instinctively knew what to do, despite the fact I was only 17 years old. I approached the young girl who crouched next to the lake sobbing her heart out. I stretched my arms out to hold her and comfort her. I asked her what was wrong but the next thing I knew, I was shoved with much force onto the frozen lake. I screamed in shock. My legs could no longer hold me, as I fell hard onto the ice. Panic flooded my body as I begun to hear the ice crack. I couldn't breathe, I just stared at her. She looked at me with pain in her eyes, and a frown on her beautiful pace face. Her black short hair was disheveled across her face covering most of her brown eyes. But I saw her mouth I'm sorry as the icy water rushed to get me. It completely engulfed me and I knew just then, just then that I was doomed. The worst of it all was that I saw her eyes, I saw her brown eyes staring at me anxiously and I forgave her completely.
