My short, black bootie's sunk into the snow as I walked away from the university. I hadn't know it was gonna storm like a mother,or else I would've worn a different outfit. I clenched the edges of my maroon cardigan together and walked faster.

I looked up at the graying sky and knew another storm was coming. I hurried towards shelter. My soaked feet carried me inside of a quaint little cafe. After shaking the snow from my booties I took a seat in a small booth next to a window. I watched as the snow swirled around outside, beautiful madness.

My attention snaps away from the snow as someone clears their throat. I look up and see a petite girl holding a pad of paper "May I get you anything?" She asked in a flat slightly annoyed voice.

"Um...A green tea please." I smile as she writes down my order.

Her light blue eyes meet mine "One green tea coming up. Oh and miss you might not want to sit here long,Mr.Valdosta doesn't like company." She walks off leaving me slightly confused.

I tap my fingers against the polished maple wood and contemplate moving seats.

"Mr.Valdosta doesn't like company."
Her voice rings through my head as I shrug "Well I guess he'll just have to deal."

The women returns five minutes later and sets a small steaming tea cup down in front of me. I smile kindly up at her before she heads back to her work. I sip the hot tea silently and scroll through my phone.

The booth seat across from me squeaks almost silently as someone takes a seat on it. I immediately lift my head.

A tall broad figure sits across from me,only half an arms length away. I feel his chocolate brown eyes studying me as I take in his sharp jawline and mused hair that was almost the exact shade of his eyes.

"Are you done baby girl?" He whispered in a deep smoky voice that caused me to cross my legs quickly and look down.

"Y-yes sir, sorry sir." I say softly and slowly lift my cup to my mouth, avoiding eye contact.

"Don't be." He reaches out and tilts my chin up so that my eyes meet his "My name is Alex,Alex Valdosta, but please feel free to call me sir." Alex says in his soft smoky voice before dropping his hand to his lap.

I gulp and nod. I take a sip of my tea hoping to calm my nerves before saying "I'm Sophia Manchester." I slowly raise my eyes to his and see that he is staring down at me.

With a smile he says "What a beautiful name, for a beautiful girl."

I feel my jaw twitch lightly. I hate that, girl. I am not a girl. I am a women. I sigh and return my eyes to my tea.

"Did I upset you in some way little one?" I hear him say as he reaches out and takes my hand gently.

I yank it back and glare up at him "I am not a girl or a little one. I am a women and I will be treated as such."

Alex chuckles and clasps his hands together on the table in front of him "Yes a women." He says the word in a different manner then his other words, almost with an air of disgust. "And how old is this women exactly?"

I bite my lip "Eighteen." I mumble knowing that to many I am still a girl.

I hear Alex cough lightly and look up. His milky brown eyes meet mine "Eighteen? Perfect." He smiles adoringly at me and I smile shyly back. "What is an eighteen year old, beautiful, girl doing all alone in downtown New York I wonder."

I drop my eyes once again "I came up here on a scholarship. I wanted to get away from my old life and start anew.)) I admit.

"How wonderful to see a young girl stepping out of her comfort shell."

I nod and scold him in my mind for using those words.

I slowly finish my tea and glance out the window at the calming storm "I had best be heading home now." I stand and smooth my white skirt.

Alex grabs the hem of my shirt and pulls it down gently,I gasp lightly as I feel his skin run over mine "Showing to much skin baby girl." He quietly says to me before dropping his hand.Alex looks up at me "It's far to cold out there to walk, you will freeze to death. How about I drive you?"

I nod and bite my lip. He stands and I hug the cardigan to me. Alex places his hand on my lower back, sending shivers down my spine, and leads me outside and into his warm car. I buckle and watch as he starts the engine. "Directions baby girl?"

I avert my eyes "Oh um 21st and groove street." I answer him.

He nods and starts towards it "That isn't a very nice neighborhood baby girl."

"It's all I could afford right now." I say timidly not knowing why he intimidated me so.

"And so far from the university." Alex adds.

I nod "Yeah, but I know how to deal and I am happy to have it."

Alex pulls up to the dingy apartment and turns to me "I have an extra room in my house and I'm only a block from the university." He tells me "Just think about it Sofia and I won't have you pay rent."

I furrow my brow and stare at him "That's insane. No rent. What are you getting at Alex?"

His jaw clenches and his smile turns into a frown "It's sir Sofia, not Alex. You are to stay with me. It will be safer. Now pack your belongings and I will be back in an hour to pick you up. Understand?"

I shrink back under his gaze "Y-yes sir."

Alex softens his gaze. He comes around and opens my door, offering out a hand for me to take. I take it and he pulls me out and up towards him. He kisses my cheek "One hour." He whispers in my ear, before placing me back down, getting in his car,and driving away.
