PROLOGUE

Alex Smith stood in front of a window. On the other side of the glass was a room filled with cradles. All of them were empty except for one. Inside it was a sleeping baby girl, a plastic band barring her name and birth date that just so happened to be the day before. Alex did not have to guess the child's name, for he had chose it himself.
Darby Cassandra Smith, not verry original, but it had been his wife's job to come up with names. As he watched the peaceful child, he began to cry. Never had he thought that he would hurt as much as he did at that moment. After a few more minutes of watching the child, he left her in the care of the hospital. He had to go home for now, before he fell apart. He needed to get his mind off of the events that took place earlier that day. He had to prepare himself for the upcoming funeral.
