Chapter One

Today was the first day back at school since my dad passed away. He died on December 22nd, so it had been 18 days since then. Wow, only 18 days since I became a half orphan. I see myself as an half orphan because my mom is still here but I'm one parent away from being an orphan. My mom tried convincing me to stay home for a little while longer but what was the point, all that would do is cause me to fall behind and make everyone wonder what happened to me. I didn't want people looking at me different so I only told my close friends what had happened. Before I went to school I promised myself that I wouldn't cry in front of anyone, if I needed to cry I would go find a dark corner to go to and cry, then make myself look normal again.

When I got to school I was greeted by all my friends. They all had this look of sadness mixed with fake smiles, not even good fake smiles like sad fake smiles, I HATED that look.

" Hey" I said when I reached them

"HI" they responded in unison. Kay, that's a little creepy. I decided to see if they would treat me normally so I said "how much you want to bet that Mrs. Bethanne give a "what I did over break" essay in English?"

"Oh Cassidy, I'm sure she won't make you do one of those if you explain to her what happened' my friend Chelsea replied. " Ya" all my other friends chorused.

Great I've only been in school for like 5 minutes and already I'm getting sympathy. Well isn't this day going to be fun. Note my sarcasm.

Just then the warning bell rang. Woohoo 5 minutes till class CAN'T wait. Again sarcasm.

I head to my locker to get my books for first period which is.......... CRUD I don't know my schedule! with everything that has been going on I must have forgotten to look at it. Luckily I always make a photo copy before break and stick it in my locker. I KNEW that would come in handy one day. I get to my locker and look for my schedule I see that I have Drama first period. "YES" I think. my Drama teacher Ms. Blisse is the best. we like never do any work because she will spend an entire class period telling us stories about her Broadway days. I'd have to say that drama is by far my favourite class. What an awesome way to start off a presumably horrible day.

When I got to drama, I looked around and I knew no one! I found a seat at the front of the class. People slowly started to walk into class. I noticed that there as still an empty desk next to me. Ms. Blisse started to talk about what we were going to learn this year. I tuned her out, the first day of classes were always boring. Then 15 minutes into class there was a knock in the door. Ms. Blisse opened it and said "class we have a new student. Please introduce yourself."

I looked up and saw the most mysterious blue eyes.

"Ummmm, hi my name is Liam and I transferred here from Manitoba"

"Thanks Liam" Ms. Blisse says "Why don't you take a seat next to Cassidy."

Thank you Ms. Blisse
