The moon was full and bright, with only a few spiraling clouds trailing across its blotted silver surface. Yuki smiled up from the roof of the Twilight Mansion, Sodom perching beside his hands, planted firmly on the stone ledge. Yuki's tawny hair was ruffled by a sudden breeze, and Luka's breath caught in his chest as Yuki's wide golden eyes were revealed, reflecting the intense orb hovering above him. So beautiful.
"Luka." He said suddenly, turning his smile at the shadowy form. "I was hoping you would find me here." The tall Duras smiled and approached him in only a few strides, his dagger-like eyes looking almost gentle in the dim night.
"Was there something in particular you wanted to ask me, Yuki?" Luka asked, leaning against one of the stone pillars that jutted from the roof. With a yawn, Sodom fluttered to his shoulder and watched the two of them gaze at each other, only slightly puzzled by the emotions their eyes were clearly trying to convey.
This was it. Yuki suddenly wanted to run, to hide from what could be an incredibly painful truth, but this had gone on too long. On impulse, he reached out and clung to Luka's cross amulet, the one he had put so much love into making, with both hands, grimacing with closed eyes as he stumbled over the words hastily. "I-I want you to tell me our relationship in the past, Luka! Before I was reborn as a man!"
It felt like an eternity of silence, but eventually, Luka wrapped his fingers gently around Yuki's own slim grasp and, although it felt so very wrong, tugged those beloved hands away. "I swore to myself that I would never reveal those memories to you. All I can tell you, Master, is that –"
"Don't call me that, please." Yuki murmured, glaring at the ground beneath his feet and fighting the tears that spilled like raindrops from his eyes. However, his hands were clenched into determined fists, and when he raised his gaze to Luka's, there was no hesitation anymore. "I know that our relationship as a contractor and servant can't be the truth! Not when I long to be held by you every minute of the day, and not when I dream of you and me together at last, until I can't discern true memories and fiction. Please, don't let it be that simple." He breathed in choked gasps, the fists at his sides shaking and his closed eyes upturned to the sky, trying to muster an apology for this all-too-rude confrontation.
At this very moment, watching the tears rolling down Yuki's cheeks, whatever small remainder of Luka's resolve vanished, and with one quick step, he had his true love wrapped in his arms once again, nuzzling his cheek into Yuki's hair and breathing in the sweet, familiar scent. "I'm here, idiot. I'll always be here." He whispered, and as Yuki returned the comfortingly crushing embrace after only a moment of surprise, the words echoing in his head.
"Is that...what we were, then? Always standing beside one another?" Yuki asked, burying his face in Luka's muscular chest, "Were we...was I..." He began to feel the tears well up again, and bit his lip.
I cannot keep this within me any longer. Don't ever betray her, and her is him, and I love them both with mind, body and soul. He wants to know the truth, so I must reveal this, finally. With a deep breath, Luka came to his final decision, and pulled slightly away from Yuki to lift his beloved's chin gently.
"I will not betray you, Yuki. That has been our strongest vow from the moment we fell into this ridiculous love." Luka whispered, and leaned down, finally giving Yuki the kiss they had both be waiting for.
Sodom giggled at their expressions, and then flew away to give them some privacy, fluttering in loops up, up, and away towards the moon, that shone with a particular brilliance as the two beings were free to begin their love all over again.
And the next morning, as Yuki and Luka sat eating breakfast next to each just as usual ( oh-so-subtle of course) everyone noticed the tightly intertwined hands underneath the table.
With this final secret unlocked from its cage, peace (or at least as much peace as could be had in such troublesome times) settled across the Twilight Mansion.
