In that moment, I knew.
As I watched the actors and actresses take up the stage, I knew exactly where I wanted to be in life.
On the stage.
I was seven years old when my mom took me to see my first musical. It was at a small theatre dedicated to allowing High School and Middle School students have a chance to perform and be on stage. The show was, "Grease," a romantic comedy set in the 50's that I'm sure you've all heard about. I remember watching the show, and just wishing I could be on that stage too. With the music, and the dancing, and the singing. Everything! As a kid I had always loved to sing, but when I saw that show I knew what I wanted to do with my voice. Perform.
Pretty soon, I began taking Drama in my elementary school. I then went to an Academy of the Arts for middle school, my focus of course being acting. Middle school was especially rough for me, socially and performance wise. I was turned down time after time. I never had a musical part in Middle School. Sure, it got me down, but I didn't let it keep me down. I kept going. Kept trying. And kept cultivating my craft up into High School. I had just started taking voice lessons in my sophomore year, knowing that if I wanted to go anywhere in musical theater, I had to strengthen my voice.
That's where this story begins.
