I'm sorry to keep all of you waiting so long for updates. I've not been writing at all, really, and I've missed it terribly. Thank you to all who have commented on and added this story to their reading lists! It makes me so happy. ^_^ This chapter is kind of in honor of one of my favorite fanfics and fanfic writers because she and her fanfic are no longer on Wattpad and I miss them both terribly. I have such fond memories of staying up way too late crying and laughing over that story. :') Anywho, LOVE YOU GUYS!! <3
----Jennifer's POV
A drop in the ocean
A change in the weather
I was praying that you and me might end up together
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert
But I'm holding you closer than most 'cause you are my heaven
As soon as the music reached my ears, I perked up and immediately felt my foot tap gently against the floor. The familiarity enveloped my mind, almost like a little bit of home seeping into my mind. Lights danced across the floor, catching the shimmery surface of my dress and reflecting every time I shuffled my position.
The party so far had been wonderful, meeting the entire cast of The Hobbit and hearing the endless tales of funny set stories. I felt now as though I understood why Lee loved, as still loves, acting so much. The cast becomes family.
My attention was soon captured by a rather loud, intoxicated eruption of laughter beside me. Evangeline Lily turned to me, her glass in hand still shaking from her bout of giggles, "What do you think?"
I lifted my eyebrows, obviously oblivious to the conversation around me. "Sorry, think of what?"
"How about we do some karaoke?" She repeated, now facing fully toward me. Her hand jerked in the direction of Lee who was sitting a few feet away talking with Orlando Bloom. Her voice dropped to a loud whisper, "I say a karaoke war is what's needed here."
I look down at my partially empty glass of wine in my hand then back at the stage. I hadn't done karaoke since I was 17, which according to my memory ended with tears and a sprained ankle. I glanced at Lee, momentarily catching his gaze. Ever since I met him, I felt less fearful of coming out of my comfort zone. Though now, I guess, the alcohol helped. Here goes nothing. "Why not. I haven't done anything like this in a while." I concluded, brushing off any doubt that entered my mind.
Evangeline chuckled, clinking her glass against mine and winked at me, "Good." We raised our glasses to our lips, the strong liquid rushing down our throats in unison.
The burning liquid made my throat tingle, but I waved it off with a quick shake of my head. Evangeline had already leapt off the stool and was headed towards the group, leaving me a several feet behind. I set my glass down, smiling at the satisfying clink that rang throughout the bar as it hit the wood.
I sprinted the best I could in the heels I wore, towards where Lee sat. He stared up as Evangeline rushed past the table, towards the DJ. I came to a halt near the table. I was out of breath. How could one possibly run that fast in heels?
Lee raised his eyebrow. "In a hurry?" I could see his teasing expression was laced with concern.
I chuckled breathily, my chest heaving slightly. "No, but Evangeline seems to be in a rush to-"
A loud crackling interrupted me, followed by the DJ's voice announcing a karaoke war.
My eyes crinkled up as I grinned, half fearing for my life, but curious to see his reaction. A laugh escaped my lips as he raised his eyebrows. "A karaoke war, huh?" He stared at me a moment. "You guys don't expect to win, do you?"
