Another day in this hell hole of a school. This has been an interestingly weird week, then again it's the day before Halloween, and the week of a full moon. Everyone has seemed to just be a bit off, almost unexplainably off. I look at my phone, and swear silently as I see I'm already 20 minutes late to my first hour class. I'm not too worried. It's organic chemistry and the teacher is like 85.. I've never really been concerned about my punctuality to school. It's not very strict and if you just turn in your work, you legitimately cannot fail.
Pulling into my normal parking spot I get that vibe that something isn't right. I see the normal sheriff truck that drops by to do random seatbelt checks is empty and the door is wide open. I'm thrown off a little because he never really gets out of his truck, and on the few occasions he does it's always locked. Like he doesn't really trust the whole 50-something kids enrolled in the building, sort of insulting. But then again half of us are itching for a fight daily. After a minute I realize maybe he needed some coffee, sounds reasonable, stereotypical but reasonable. I'm just psyching myself out, nothing is wrong. Nothing ever is wrong. What really is going to happen to a high school in Southeastern Kansas, when said school is alongside a highway. Nothing.
