''I can't believe this is actually happening' said Caitlin, a brown hair, hazel eyed African American goddess, she's sitting in her best friend, Lauren's love seat, in her loft apartment.
'It not like he legit asked her yet Caitlin' said brad, Lauren’s guy best friend - standing at a towering six feet two inched with shaggy brown hair and forest green eyes.
You see, Lauren - the topic of this conversation - is about to hear the four special words from her boyfriend of five years, Jeff MacLean.
'Don’t deny the truth Bradford, you're just mad 'cause you didn't get to her first' said Caitlin placing her feet on the coffee table, and taking another swig of her red wine.
As much as brad hated to agree with her, she was right. He missed his change to be with the love of his life, and will never get that chance again. Brad and Lauren dated in high school, it was prom night and brad only had one thing in mind - but what teenage guy didn't - and the fact that he completely wasted didn't help the situation either.
She drove him home to an empty house and he begged her to stay with him, and being the caring person that she is, she did. The drunken, horny teenage brad took that as a welcoming and pounded.
He never saw Lauren cry before that night, and then he realized what an idiot he was to take advantage of her like that, and that night Lauren left with her virginity in tacked and a new view on Bradford Miller.
Three years later they ran into each other and not only was she in law school but she was also the girlfriend to a famous celebrity photographer.
'Karma man' brad said out loud.
'what about it?' said the invader of his every thought, Lauren - with her chocolate dark brown hair in a messy bun and her calming blue eyes that were staring back at him, standing at a whooping five feet two inches - was the girl he loved and will never have.
'What?' brad answered?
'You said ' karma man'' she repeated him, in her general man voice...
Lucky bastard, brad thought.
'Oh, no nothing just speaking out loud ' he answered her, taking a huge swig from his wine glass to help him keep his mouth shut.
'Anyways' said Caitlin bring the attention back to her ' what makes you think he gonna pop the question?'
'Well, I forgot my reading glasses at his place, so I was feeling around on the shelves and I felt a tiny box. It was red and velvet. I mean why would he hide it if it wasn't important? And it's not my birthday or sweetie's day so it just gotta be an engagement ring, right?" Lauren was bubbling with excitement. She felt like she did when she got her first car, or when she moved in with Caitlin for the first time.
'I guess we won't know until tomorrow right?' said brad sounding really annoyed.
'If you're gonna be like that all night then you can just leaving now' said Caitlin throwing dagger at brad through her eyes. Caitlin is the kind of woman that doesn't take crap from nobody, and especially not from the guy who broken her best friend heart back in high school, even if it was eight years ago. She always told her that she was to forgiving and one day it was going to come back and nip her in the butt. But that is also one of her best qualities.
'Look, all I’m saying is that don't you think it's a little too soon, it's only been five years nugget, that not long enough' brad said defending himself.
'It’s long enough; it gives the relationship a sense of mystery. I bet there are hundreds of couples out there who've known each other a lot longer and still don't know everything about each other' said Caitlin to reassure Lauren.
