Eternal Love

Alex walked into the club, the smell of blood making his thirst grow. It had been two weeks since he had last fed on a mere human. Even then it wasn’t enough. The woman was intoxicated on drugs. Tonight he vowed to himself he would find pure blood. Blood untainted with drugs or disease. He looked around the darkened club and noticed that he wasn’t the only vampire. He inhaled the smells of the club and caught ten different scents. He wondered if they were one coven or just more solo vampires like him searching for an easy meal. He looked to his right and noticed instantly four that were working their magic on unsuspecting humans. To his left he saw three leaning against a wall. A coven was here. He walked around the club and onto the second floor. He chose a table where he could see everything. He watched the female humans dance. Stupid humans, they don’t even know they are being hunted. His attention immediately went to the door when a new smell caught his attention. Two young women had just walked into the club. If he would have had a heart his heart would have stopped when he looked at one of the young women. She looked identical to his Rebecca. Her hair was shoulder length brown in color. She had been reborn. She had come back to him finally.

            Caelynn couldn’t believe that she had let her friend talk her into going to a club again. She could tell by the music that she already didn’t like it and there was a vibe she got she didn’t understand. All of her life she read vibes from people and places. Here she felt the need to run fast from here and then there was a need to search. Something was here that needed her to find it. They walked through the crowd to an unoccupied booth. Meghan left long enough to go to the bar and get drinks.

            “You need to go out more. How do you ever intend on meeting a guy?” Meghan said as she drank her margarita.

 “Well, I don’t want to meet one in a bar. I’m not that desperate.” Caelynn replied. “Not that you are but I just am not into the bar scene. There is too much trouble in bars.” Meghan smiled at her friend. They talked for a few until a man walked up to the booth. He smiled at Caelynn and looked at Meghan.

“May I have this dance?” He asked as a slow song came on. Meghan smiled and took his hand. They walked out on the floor and started dancing. Caelynn leaned back against her seat and sipped on her long island ice tea. She sat still waiting through four other songs for her friend to return. This is so typical of Meghan. This is why I never come with her. The last eight times she has left me, now 9 with tonight. Caelynn thought. She stood up and walked away.

Alex watched her admirably. For so long she had been gone from him. This, however, was not where he thought she would be found. He often imagined finding her in a library. They would recite poetry to each other. He had imagined finding her in France, taking her to watch the sun rise on the Eiffel Tower. He didn’t think that she would be found in a club, one that had other vampire occupants. He watched how she seemed to be getting impatient when her friend didn’t return. He looked around hoping none of the other vampires had noticed her.  One vampire licked his left canine as he looked at her. “Over my dead body.” He murmured to himself. He quickly looked back at her now empty booth. Where did she go?  He stood up immediately scanning the crowd for her. He quickly found her. The vampire was close behind her. Within a millisecond he was going down the stairs. His eyes never left her as he closed the gap between them.

“Excuse me, Miss,” Caelynn turned around to face a handsome blond haired man. His eyes were a deep green under the club lights. The vibe that she read from him made her uncomfortable. He held a bracelet. “I think you dropped this.”

“No,” Caelynn said as she shook her head. “I’m sorry; you have me confused with someone else.” The vampire changed his tactic when he realized that she wasn’t going to fall for his mind control.
