KᎪᎡᎡY was right. All time and reason was lost between them. Raelynne wasn't sure whether seconds passed or minutes between them two staring at each other in silencing, daring one another to speak.
Raelynne took the dare, "What do you mean by that?"
Karry didn't even bother to smile - he wasn't acting 'Princely' anymore, "Don't you get tired of it?"
"Of what?"
"Putting a mask on."
Raelynne didn't want to give her away. Yes, she was tired of it, being someone you're not is tiring. "I have worn this mask for so long, it has become me."
"But it's not you." Karry said abruptly. "You know who you really are, Raelynne. I saw a little part of you at the Restaurant yesterday."
Raelynne's insides froze - as if pieces of a clockwork stood still, "That wasn't me, I was being impulsive."
"Raelynne, no one knows you better than me." Karry turned away and leaned against the fence, "Like no one knows me better than you."
Raelynne didn't want any more of this - what he was telling her was absolute torture. It made that nagging voice at the back of her mind - which had always been against putting on a mask - get stronger.
"Karry, I only came to find you to apologize for yesterday." Raelynne said coolly, going back to her Cold Queen phase. "That's all."
"Shut up."
For a split-second, Raelynne felt afraid, she felt so much more vulnerable and exposed.
"Raelynne, I told you, there are no more stereotypes, stop trying to be Cold Queen." Karry said calmly again.
"I'm not trying to be her, I am her." Raelynne protested,
Karry only just ignored her though, "And don't apologize for being yourself."
Raelynne was being to back away, inch-by-inch she reached the doorknob, "The Karry Wang I used to know is sarcastic and quiet. But I don't know him anymore."
Karry smiled genuinely for the first time today, "I'm still me, as you are still you."
The door opened from behind Raelynne and both Karry and her turned to glare at the intruder.
"Oh... Karry, Raelynne." Jackson said innocently, "I didn't know this was a secret hiding place, actually, I wanted to come up here privately too."
"It's fine."
"Get out."
Karry and Raelynne said at the same time, Raelynne glared pointedly at Karry, "I said, 'it's fine', Karry."
"You may be fine with it, but I'm not." Karry scowled.
"There's the asshole I know." Raelynne said, picking up her bag and taking Jackson by the arm, "We can find another place, Jackson."
Raelynne slammed the door behind them which left Karry standing alone on the roof, wind blowing his tufts of hair.
"What was all that about?" Jackson asked, still getting dragged by Raelynne.
