It all started with Jan Oort in 1932. She was studying astronomy when she noticed that there needed to be more mass in the galaxy for the galactic plane to be plausible. Again, a similar observation occurred when Swiss astrophysicist, Fritz Zwicky. Zwicky estimated the cluster's total mass based on the motions of galaxies near its edge and compared that estimate to one based on the number of galaxies and total brightness of the cluster. He estimated that there was about 400 times more mass than was visually observable. Where was this unseen force. Could it be DARK MATTER? Or is this just a theory that will never become real...
