We shouldn't be here. I knew I should've stayed home. Why didn't I just stay home? Something bad is going to happen to us. Something bad. I just knew it.

"Marilyn, are you alright?" I heard Jay ask from the back seat.

I turned to my boyfriend and our other three friends Celeste, her boyfriend Danny, and Josh.

"No, Jay. I'm not alright," I whined while turning to Lela, who was driving. "We shouldn't be here. I know people who have gone to Questhaven. Weird things started happening to them. They couldn't even talk about the things they saw."

Someone giggled at my speech from the back seat as we drove up to the large gate that secluded the small city of Questhaven and the Elfin Forest.

It was halloween night, and of course, my friends had the most splendid idea of going to one of the most 'haunted' areas that was nearby to our home of San Diego. I've heard stories about this place. And they weren't good. My mom would always tell me to never come near here, ever.

Questhaven was a rather large piece of land that held housing and even an insane asylum. No one knows what happened exactly, but there were talkings about there being a mass murder which put some kind of curse over the land, including Elfin forest. The huge and dark woods were connected to the land, that's where witches would do their 'devil worshipping' and what not hundred of years ago, so the sources say. Some say it's baloney, while others say that people have gone through these gates and have never come out.

"I would expect there to be more people trying to get in, since it's halloween." Josh hopped out of the car as soon as Lela parked near the front gate.

"Maybe they're actually sane and know that's it's idiotic to come here." Lela shook her head while following him out.

She was the only one who agreed with me on this.

We should NOT be here.

"Where are you guys going?" Danny asked.

"They're seeing if the gate is locked. If it is, we're gonna have to jump it." Celeste gleamed with joy and excitement.

"This is bullshit," I hissed. "You all are nuts."

She cackled at the shakiness in my voice and pulled Danny out of the car.

"Babe," Jay sighed. "There's nothing to be afraid of."

He quickly got out and came to my door. After opening it, he kneeled down and looked up at me with his begging puppy dog eyes and lips. I knew how bad Jay wanted to do this, and all I ever wanted or set out to do was to make him happy. I knew he wouldn't dare step foot in the place without me, and the last thing I wanted to do was disappoint the boy I loved.

"You guys coming?" Danny called.

We looked over and saw that he was already halfway over the fence. My chest tightened as Jay took my hand and lifted me from the car.

"Marilyn, we are going to be fine," He chuckled as we locked the car up and headed towards the dark, black metal fence that had 'QUESTHAVEN' engraved. "And you should know that I would never let anything hurt you. Ever."

"Yeah Jay," I sighed. "I know."

He planted a kiss on my cheek as we watched our friends hurdle themselves over the fence. Jay gave me a boost, and I was up and over in a second. He soon rejoined me and interlocked our fingers. Celeste reached into her backpack and threw a small flightlight in each of our hands. She then hooked onto Danny's arm and began to walk down the barely lit path. Lela and Josh followed behind them, and then Jay and I.
