I'd finished the pasta. "Hey, Jack? Can I stay here while I'm suspended?" I asked. "I don't know about that, kid... I'll call mom and ask her, though." He walked over and grabbed a phone. He went into the backyard. He was there for what felt like an eternity. "Mom says yeah, you can stay. Took a lot of convincing, though." he sighed.
"Hey... Sis? Could you love me... Even if I did something horrible?" he abruptly asked. "Of course! You've been there for me for most of my life. You've never missed one of my games. You help teach me how to cook. Why would I hate you?" He looked close to tears. "Whoa, man. Are you okay?" I asked him. He wiped off a tear. "Yeah... You know you're my whole world, right? That if something happened to you, I couldn't ever forgive myself for not helping you." he asked, shaking me. "What the hell, Jack?! Where did this... Outburst come from? Yes! I know that." He seemed to calm. "Okay... Good. I was just thinking..."
We kept talking about random things for a minute. "So, you like any boys yet?" he asked me. "No. Why?" I questioned. "Because I need to know when to sharpen some knives." he smirked. I rolled my eyes. Instead of a dad that didn't want me dating, I had an older brother.
My brother's dog came and sat next to me. "Want me to walk Hal?" I asked. He shrugged. "Yeah. Can you get the mail, too?" he asked. I nodded as I got the dog's leash. I attached the leash and got up. "Be back in a half hour." I said, grabbing my Ipod.
I was walking, just getting into my music when something hard and heavy hit my back. I stumbled a bit and turned around. It was Sally, Mandy's best friend. She was laughing hard as I rubbed my back. I looked at the rock laying at my feet. "Why the hell would you chuck a rock at my back?" I screamed. Her face went serious. "Earlier today, you broke my friend's nose. What did you expect?" I stepped forward one. "And I'll break yours too!" I yelled.
Sally smirked to herself. "I bet inside, you wouldn't do that. You're to scared." she mocked. "I'm braver than you'll ever be!' I yelled. "Then prove it to me. I bet you wouldn't even go looking for that... Person at night." She was avoiding the word "Killer", even though that's what he was. He'd already claimed two lives last week. We are unaware of the death toll in other cities, but we're up to two. "Yeah. I'll go looking for him. I don't even believe he's here, anyway." I glared at her. She laughed. "Alright. Go tonight. And I want proof. Take a picture of something in the forest." I nodded my head. "Then, you and your bitchy whore friends will leave me alone!" I screamed. She smiled. "And tell that hot older brother of yours that I'm available." she giggled. I walked back to my brother's house, grabbed the mail, and went inside. The last comment made me want to rip her head off, but I tried to ignore it.
My brother looked at me. I clearly looked pissed off. "Anything... Wrong?" he asked. "Yeah. I have to go out tonight." I sighed. "Okay... I guess... Do you need a ride?" Jack said with a concerned look on his face. If he knew I was looking for a killer, he wouldn't even think about letting me go. "Uhm... I can walk. I'll need to borrow your camera, though. Do you mind?" He shook his head. "Nah, you can borrow it." he shrugged. "Oh yeah. If you're meeting some guy, tell them I have a loaded gun, as well as a scalpel." he warned. I rolled my eyes. "I'm not."
It was nine o'clock. I had a flashlight, the camera, and was walking on my own to a park to find a killer and take a picture. There are no words to describe how scared I was. I shined my flashlight over different things. Maybe there was nothing here and I could just take a photo of the playground. I began to get angrier and angrier at the fact that I was getting scared over nothing.
Then, I heard the crunch, crunch, crunch of footsteps. I looked behind and saw absolutely nothing. "Who's there?" I asked. I flashed the light behind myself. No one. Dammit, curse my paranoia! I shook my head and started towards the kids playground to take the picture and leave.
