Mission II: crossing a red line. Chapter 3.
They say that if you dreamed that you teeth had fallen off, someone you knew would die. That’s why when I woke up on Tuesday morning I picked up the phone and dialed home. It was earlier than usual, so I slipped in the bathroom closing the door behind me so I would wake up Logan.
Dad picked up the phone on the forth ring. “Hello?” he had been asleep.
“Hi, dad.” I said shyly.
“Nat? why are you calling so early?” he asked suddenly sounding concerned.
“It’s nothing. Is everything ok home?” I asked sitting on the side of the bathtub.
It took him a couple seconds to answer. “Of course, honey. Why?”
I breathed in deeply. “I just had a dream.” It felt so stupid when I said it like that. Me, Natalie Thomas, bodyguard, fighter and brave chick, was calling home because she had a dream. IT was stupid really. But that kind of things always turned out to be true. It was really creepy.
I heard dad sigh on the other side of the line. “About what?” he asked tiredly.
“Teeth falling. You know how that’s always creep me out. Well, just be careful today, and call me if anything happens, okay?” I said hurriedly.
“You sure?” he asked.
“Yes. Go back to sleep. Bye, dad.” I said reassuringly.
“Bye, honey.” He said and hung up the phone.
This was utterly ridiculous. It was just a dream. I shook my head putting on a robe and left the room to go down to the kitchen. It wasn’t even seven in the morning so it was just me and maybe one or two other bodyguards.
I opened the front door and the laughing ceased immediately.
“What are you doing up?” one of the guys, Carlos, asked me with a doubtful smile.
“Creepy dream. Can’t go back to sleep.” I explained dismissively.
The other guy, Leo, greeted me shortly. You could see it in his face how tired he was. He yawned and slapped himself once to wake up. Yeap, my guys were weird.
“How long til’ the shift’s over?” I asked them sitting on the front steps of the house.
“WE finish at eight.” Carlos answered me. “I can’t wait to go home!” he said.
“Ahh, the consolation prize…” Leo said mockingly.
“She is not a consolation prize!” Carlos defended his girl.
I snorted. “You met her last week after you broke up with your girl, and she’s already living with you.”
“Consolation prize.” Leo said nodding his head.
“Is not!” Carlos refused.
“Hey! We’re not judging!” I said laughing. Carlos grumbled behind us.
Leo and I teamed up for a while to make fun of Carlos until he had enough and started calling madness on us. Half the things he said didn’t even make sense but we let him ramble while we laugh our butts off.
“I’m done!” Carlos said. “Two against one; that is not fair!” he pointed between us.
“Aww! You feel bad?” Leo said grinning.
“Shut it!” Carlos said and stormed into the house.
Leo and I looked at each other and burst out laughing. My guys were absolutely crazy!
