Chapter 6
Kaylee’s POV
When I woke up again, voices filled my ears. It took me a moment to figure out who’s was who's but I soon pinpointed my mothers, Cody's and a grown mans. I soon opened my eyes, but had to close them because the light was overwhelming. Taking another try at opening my eyes, I looked around the room, remembering it from the last time I woke up. My mum and Cody stood with their backs to me facing, which I assumed was the doctor. The doctor looked up and saw me staring back.
"Ah! Kaylee, your awake! My name is Dr. Brown. How are you feeling?" He pushed aside Mum and Cody and walked towards me holding a clipboard in one hand and a pen in the other.
"Well my head hurts and I feel sorta dizzy and tired but other then that, I'm good." He wrote down whatever doctors wrote down and nodded his head.
"I'll send a nurse in for some pain pills. I'm assuming you want to know what's wrong?" I nodded my head and he went on. "You have some water in your lungs and your head was bleeding, but we fixed that. With the water in your lungs, it's going to make you cough and when you cough your going to cough up water. It's normal. Your head bandages need to be changed every morning and night for a week or so. Keep it easy for the next few weeks and I'll see you in a bit to sign you out."
He casually strolled out of the room and I looked oddly at him. Rolling my eyes I turned to my mum and best friend. Cody ran to me and gave me a huge hug.
"Don't ever let anything like that happen again! You scared me." I hugged him back.
"I promise to try to not let anything happen to me. Thank you for staying with me when I needed you." He smiled at me and opened his mouth to say something, but was shoved away by my mum.
"I'm so glad you’re ok, hunny! Alli wasn't that clear spoken when she said you were in the hospital. But you will be able to leave in an hour or so. No dance for a few weeks though." My face fell. No dance? I won't be able to practice for the competition! I started to panic. What if I get kicked off the team? What if I forget everything I learned? What if-
The shrill of a phone interrupted my panicky train of thought. I looked over to where the obnoxious noise was coming from and spotted Cody. I gave him a glare and he smiled sleeplessly and quickly answered it.
"Hello? Oh! Hey man! Wassup?" Cody paused and listened. "No way! Really? That would be great! She would love to-" his voice was cutoff by the slamming of the door. I gave my mum a confused face. Who was this 'she' he speaks of? Wait. Am I seriously getting jealous over this? Cody. Is. My. Best. Friend. Nothing more! Changing the subject...
The doctor flung the door open and walked towards me with a nurse trailing behind him holding two containers. She gave me one-which contained a pill- and another-with water- and told me to take the pill. I acquiesced, wincing when it went down. The doctor thrust paper towards my mum explaining what they were.
"Good news! You can go home now! These are her papers to get out and a list of things you cannot do with a concussion. The usual you can’t read, watch TV, write, I also have pain pills. Do not take this if you don’t have any pain. These things can be dangerous if not taken for the right reason or overdose. Hopefully I won’t see you again here!”
My mum nodded her head and signed the papers. Returning the papers, she reached down and grabbed a bag of clothes for me. The nurse helped me up and they put the curtain up so I could get dressed. When I was done I felt really lightheaded. I walked out and the nurse had a wheelchair.
“Ready to go? You need to be wheeled out. Hop on in!” The nurse helped me in and Cody grabbed the handles to bring me out. “Uh… I don’t think you can bring… Never mind.” Cody had turned around and glared at the woman. I rolled my eyes and the nurse lead us downstairs.
Cody’s POV
My phone rang, making Kaylee and I jump. Kaylee sent me a glare and I smiled sheepishly at her while answering.
“Hello?”
“Hey Cody! It’s Scooter!”
“Oh! Hey man! Wassup?” I asked Scooter.
“So, you know how you wanted Kaylee to join you on tour as a dancer? Well she can! I just called and they said they were looking for another dancer.” I walked towards the door as I replied.
“No way! That would be great! She would love to do this! Practice can’t be for a few weeks though. She had a surfer accident and got a concussion. And I want to ask her out before we go. She only has a few more weeks of summer left and since she has the concussions she can’t do much. Maybe in a week or two I will.”
“Sounds good buddy. I’ll call the dance instructer to tell hm to hold off for a few weeks. And we still need to finalize a few dates. But that’s about it! Prepare for your next tour!”
Ok, I am sooo sorry this is so late and so short. But, alas, life needed me and I have had zero time/insperation to write. So sorry! And by the next chapter or two (depending how things go down) Cody and Kaylee might get together! And I promise I will have the next chapter up in the next month because the end of school is nearing! Yay!
