I was running up for a layup. It was the final few seconds of the game and we were losing 48-49. I had all the open space in front of me. The guys were doing a really good job of holding the other team off. I ran forward and got close. I had only one second left. I shot.
And it went in perfectly!
I couldn't believe it! I looked up to the scoreboard to be sure.
50-49
I. Made. It.
The team surrounded me, hugging me and slapping my back. It was a dream come true.
I don't know when I sat up. I guess I opened my eyes and BOOM I was awake. I guess I was partially right. It was a dream, but it wasn't true!
I was beginning to adjust to my surroundings. Let's see... I was in the living room, where I must have fallen asleep while watching NBA. The TV was turned off, and there was a blanket on me that hadn't been there earlier. Mom must have come in earlier. I stood up and stretched, then wandered into the kitchen. The clock on the oven said 2:27am. I rummaged around in the cabinets for some crackers. Boy, was I hungry! I had fallen asleep and not eaten dinner! I finally found the saltines and grabbed a few. But as you know, crackers taste so much better with cheese. I dug through the fridge until I found some sharp cheddar. Cutting myself some, I carried it back into the living room and turned on the TV. ESPN was replaying the Golden State game. I had fallen asleep and missed it. I began to nibble my snack and watched the game. Let me say, it was getting intense! I mean it was going so back and forth I could barely keep up! I sat there mystified. A few minutes later, Rancha came in and jumped up on the couch to sit with me. I relaxed and smiled to myself. Life was good. But a few minutes later I heard a noise. I figured I had imagined it, but once again I heard it. I muted the TV. It sounded like someone talking. And it was in the back of the house.
I walked over to where I kept some of my outdoor things in a box. I pulled out a baseball bat. It was definitely going to fix whatever was back there! I snuck into the back of the house, shaking harder with each step. Finally, I reached the room where the noise was coming from. It was my parent's bedroom. I took a deep breath and opened the door quietly.
My parents were standing up with their backs to the door, looking at the TV. That was what had made the noise. I felt so dumb and started to quietly shut the door. But something caught my attention. They were watching the weatherman on TV. I put my ear to the door and listened. It was hard to tell what was being said. I picked up bits and pieces of what was being said. "Very dangerous... Tornadoes, floods, fierce storms... Increased in strength..." That was all I heard. I snuck back into the living room. When I passed through the kitchen, I grabbed the cookie jar. It was filled with double stuff Oreos. I settled back on the coach and watched the game. But for some reason I wasn't as relaxed as before.
