Dusk was falling on a dark, cold December night in London. The air was becoming colder and the stars were slowly appearing on the horizon. Annabelle Michaelson was sitting on her small blue blanket at the end of a bustling street corner, observing all the people rush by. A raw gust of wind hit her body just before she could prepare herself. Quickly, she crossed her arms tightly around her torso trying to keep all the warmth she could inside despite the fact she was wearing a very thin jumper. Once Annabelle believed that there were enough people around, she grabbed her beaten up guitar, placed her fingers on the right chords and started to play.
"She sits up high surrounded by the sun, one million branches and she loves everyone. 'Mom and Dad did you search for me? I've been up here so long I'm going crazy. And as the sun went down we ended up on the ground..." She sang confidently, getting so lost in the words she didn't notice the large crowd coming to see her perform.
Before her parents tragic death last May, they didn't have the best relationship. Being an only child, you would expect for Annabelle to have their undivided attention all the time, but that wasn't the case. Both her Mum and Dad would work all day and when they got home, all they would do is argue. Actually if all went as planned, her parents would have been divorced that coming July.
The lyrics to this song brought back a sad memory of when she was seven. One night, Annabelle climbed the biggest tree she could find in her small back yard and waited for one of her parents to notice she was gone. She waited up there all day before she realized that they wont' find her because they don't care about her and they never will. No matter how old she gets or what happens in her life, she will never forget that day.
"...This love was out of control. Tell me where did it go?" As Annabelle finished the last words to the song, she looked up to see that about 30 people had gathered and her cup was overflowing with money. She smiled and thanked as many people as she could for being so gracious. Picking up the money, her blanket, and her guitar she went off to find a decent spot to sleep for the night.
Just as she turned around, she came face to face with a tall boy around her age with very green eyes and curly brown hair.
"That was absolutely brilliant. Great job, love," the boy said smiling, the streetlights illuminating his face.
"Thank you, means a lot," she replied blushing.
"What is your name?" the mystery boy wondered.
"Annabelle, who are you?"
"Beautiful name to go with a beautiful voice. I will tell you my name the next time I see you. Bye, Annie," before she could respond, Harry winked to her just before he went off in the other direction.
Stunned by his actions, she made her way slowly towards the local park. Finding the best bench, she placed her belongings underneath her temporary "bed" and wrapped her blanket around herself as tight as possible. Annabelle fell asleep that night thinking about her encounter with the handsome mystery boy.
