Chapter 3

The mansion was impressive.  It had every amenity you could think of.  Mac wandered the halls memorizing the layout of the massive building.  There was a gourmet kitchen he stopped in for a snack.  Along with a fresh supply of groceries it had a massive walk-in freezer that was packed with pre-made meals of every sort.  Mac chose a frozen bag that had the words “Burger and fries” written on it with heating directions printed on the bag.  In minutes he was wandering the hall with a belly full of burger and fries.  He looked down from a second floor balcony at an indoor lap pool and from there he found his way into a massive gym area with all the latest exercise equipment.  Mac was truly impressed, the house had everything but when he ventured into the basement levels he was astounded by what he found.

The first of three rooms on the lower level was a science and tech lab.  Mac didn’t venture into this room but from the door way he watched in amazement as drones of every shape and size... built more drones.  Mac watched in utter fascination as the assembly line ran its self.  One drone buzzed by him forcing Mac from the doorway with an angry buzz.

“Okay, okay, I’m going,” Mac said with a light laugh.

The automated door closed with an audible hiss of air, sealing itself tight.  The next room was where Mac spent the rest of the day.  It was an armoury with every gun he could imagine and a few even he didn’t recognise.  Lifting an Mp5 from the rack he found a shelf of preloaded magazines of ammo.  Even if he didn’t know a thing about calibres and casings Mac saw that each gun was color coded to its ammo type.  He grabbed the green sided magazine of 9mm bullets and wandered over to the indoor range.  Mac smiled as he grabbed a set of ear protectors and slid the magazine home.

With a boyish grin on his face Mac let the paper men at the end of the range have it.

Bullet after bullet was sent down range with unerring precision until there were none left in his gun.

BEEP.

Mac looked down to read Ghost’s latest text.

“I see you are enjoying yourself.  It is good to see you happy.  Go back to the armoury and look in the cabinet with the glass doors.”

Mac did as he was asked and found the cabinet.  Inside were several pair of black sunglasses of various shapes and sizes.

“Select a pair of sunglasses and put them on,” Ghost urged.

He grabbed a pair of wayfarers and popped them onto his face.  Instantly the world around him changed.  The glasses were like military video displays.  Data of all kinds flooded across his vision, overlaying the room with tidbits of information, weapon descriptions, chemical ingredients just to name a few.  On the right lens he saw a new message from Ghost.

“I am sure you recognize this display from your time as a Werewolf, the technology is much the same but in a slightly more convenient package.  There is one other feature I would like you to become acquainted with.  On the arms of the glasses are your controls for the display.  The largest of the buttons controls the drone cams.

“Are you telling me I can see what the drones see?”  Mac asked in awe.

“Yes.  You can see through any drone that is synced to your personal network, no matter what they are doing or where they are.”

Mac cycled through the drones that were available to him.  He continued to scroll through them for several minutes without seeing the same scene twice.

“You have noticed by now how many eyes and ears you can access.  It can be daunting but if you use the phone in conjunction with the glasses you can be much more selective of your target.”
