Solis Rupua was an orphan. He never knew who his parents were. He actually didn't even care about it. Today was the day of pride. The green stripes painted across his face gave him immense happiness. It gave him a purpose. A purpose to take back what belonged to them from the usurpers.
Solis usually used to live under any market shed (depending on whichever vendor allowed him). He used to be a petty thief. A good one for an 8 year old. One day, he saw a tall, thin man with a large suitcase. Solis was curious. If he got hold of that suitcase maybe then he could probably survive for a week or two without stealing.
Solis began tailing that person. Soon, the man turned into one of the
narrow turnings and at that moment Solis made his move. He took a stone and threw it at the tall man and as the tall man was distracted, he ran and snatched the suitcase from his hands and began running. The suitcase was heavy and the man began to run after him now.
Solis began using the narrow alleys which he knew very well and began to take as much turns as possible so as to shake off his pursuer. This went on for about 15 minutes when Solis made a final turn and stopped behind a makeshift fruit stall. Solis opened the suitcase and his eyes became wide with surprise.
Inside the suitcase were 3 guns. There was one Uzi and two handguns. There were even two grenades! Solis had never expected these contents in the suitcase. "You shouldn't take things that doesn't belong to you" said a gruff voice behind him. The tall man looked at Solis with anger but he suddenly broke into a smile. "A trained soldier was almost beaten by a small boy".
"I'm not a small boy." Solis replied, anger rising with each word. "There is no one here. Perhaps I should just kill you and go." said the tall man. Solis was afraid now. He wanted to live. He charged at the man who just kicked him away. "Wait", said the man. He now looked at Solis as if he was studying him. The tall man continued, "You are obviously smart and resourceful and being just a boy no one will suspect you. How long do you intend to steal for a few bucks. Do you want to do something which is really useful?"
Solis was now curious, "What are you talking about?". "From now on I want you to take these guns and deliver them. By the way, I am Malis Siua."
That was the beginning. Now 15 years later Solis was finally recruited into the Elite Task Force of the Sons of Serp, commonly known as the Fang. Malas, it turned out was a member of the Fang who was assigned to deliver weapons to various Sons of Serp outposts. Solis rose up the ranks through dedication and hard work. Malas was now a father like figure for him. He saw him now and then but it had been a while since they had met.
The Fang's leader, Captain Hailus Mapio began, "Ever since the death of General Malas Jio, we have been under the yoke of the Highlanders' rule. We must take back from them what belonged to us. After defeating General Jio, they ruthlessly took over our lands. They murdered the even the 2 year old son of the late Forester king Jalio Rua (whose regent was Malas Jio)."
Solis Rupua and 3 other new Fang members like him were now angry and sad. They wanted the revenge and Solis was sure that he would get it.
