It had been a long week of nightmares, Jared finally being the person to help her through them. Nina had always had nightmares, but she never had someone come into them and save her. She had always been running from those same flames, and the flames would always catch up to her and burn her alive until she would wake up in a sweat and rock back and forth cursing to herself. But not anymore. Not since Jared had been there. He always was there when she would wake up, and he would always pull her into a comforting embrace and just hold her for hours on end. He had become her security blanket, her safety.
She never had been experienced with ever having a safety, or what that even felt like, to feel safe. She had always been trapped in this dark abyss that enveloped all of her emotions and feelings, never letting them expose themselves out into the real world. And even if they had a chance to help express her as a person, there wouldn't be someone else there to witness it. There wouldn't be another person to appreciate just what she had been capable of, just how amazing her personality was. Even she hadn't realized how amazing of a person she was, until she met Jared, who then brought that side out of her. He allowed her to hide her dark side, and show her beautiful side. To have someone there that could finally see this side of her, made her feel special and cared about in the rest of societies eyes. That now, maybe she had a chance to one day tell her children, if she had any, about Jared, and how he had saved her life in every possible way. Not only did he keep her company, but he fought away her nightmares like no other. And even if she hadn't met another person before, she was sure that no one else could do what he did.
"Thank you." She spoke up, as Jared lifted the blankets up over her stomach to her shoulders. "For what?" He asked, resting by her side, meeting her gaze. The deep ocean blue eyes, that had speckles of white glistening in them from the light that had shone through the window into the poorly lit room, now stared into his dark gray eyes. He felt that he didn't deserve the full attention or affection that showed in her eyes, and that there was someone better in the world that maybe deserved this more then him.
"For everything." She answered, resting her hand atop his shoulder. He looked over at it, seeing it perched atop his broad shoulder, thinking about how instead of another human being touching him, this had instead been an angel. "Of course. I'll always be here." He said with a reassuring smile. "Now you need rest," he rested his lips atop her head and brushed loose strands of hair out of her eyes. "I'll be downstairs if you need anything, okay?"
"Okay." She smiled, laying her head on the pillow and watching as he left the room. He closed the door behind him and made his way downstairs. He had noticed that Spike barely made himself present anymore. Where had that little mouse gone to? Jared walked around the whole house, checking every corner, looking under every piece of furniture, and even looking under loose floorboards. No sign of him.
"Maybe he went out to find some food. Nina always said he does that sometimes." Jared said before collapsing on the couch and staring up at the ceiling. One thing he couldn't get off his mind was Nina. He wanted to make sure she had been okay. These nightmares had appeared so suddenly and he doesn't even know what they are about. He didn't want to pry, but he had been curious. He understood that Nina was going through a rough time, so he would happily wait until she told him herself.
He drifted off into a long slumber, wondering what could possibly be wrong with his newfound friend.
