Cartilage - Strong, flexible material that protects bones.

Convalescent - A person who is recovering from an illness, an injury, or a surgical operation.

Diagnosis - The identification of diseases by the examination of symptoms and signs and by other investigations.

Enzyme - Any of numerous proteins produced by living organisms and functioning as catalysts for biochemical reactions.

Flare-up - A period when the symptoms are at their worse.

Genes - Parts of every cell that contain genetic information.

Immune System - The body's natural defence against disease and infection.

Inflammation - Swelling and tenderness of a joint or other tissue.

Joints - The point at which two or more bones are connected. The opposing surfaces of the bone are lined with synovial tissue.

Prostaglandins - One of a group of hormones-like substances present in wide variety of tissues and body fluids (including the uterus, brain, lungs and kidney). They are made by the enzyme cyclooxygenase
