Medusa was one of the most beautiful women most men had ever seen.
She was a priestess at Athena's temple, a loyal worshipper, a virgin.
Many men wanted to take her innocence from her. And some gods as well.
Poseidon was brave enough to rape her in the temple of Athena, while she was in the middle of prayer.
Nobody heard her screams, for it was night. That and she was deep inside Athena's temple, it was unlikely she'd be heard if there were any people around.
Once satisfied, Poseidon left her.
No longer a virgin, Athena decided Medusa would be punished. Meduse begged forgiveness, and told her she hadn't willingly give it away.
But Athena was a warrior, 'one of the guys', so she took Poseidon's side and cursed Medusa.
To some, it was a curse worse than death.
Her once beautiful hair turned to snakes.
Her eyes turned a strange green, a look that could turn you to stone.
Her skin paled.
Not only was it horrible to look at, but the transformation was very painful.
Medusa was now a Gorgon.
