Living In The Past

Chapter 1: The end is only the beginning

Anna's P.O.V:

The earth is dying. My world will soon be obliterated In a matter of days. Our sun is going to explode, causing a solar flare resulting in earth being reduced into nothing more than ashes floating in space. I'm going to die soon. Whatever's left of the human race is going to die soon. I inhaled the oxygen from my gas mask and closed my eyes. I will never know what fresh air will smell like. The earths atmosphere is full of unbreathable gases and the searing heat of the suns uv rays don't help. Today is my birthday... My last birthday. I'm 13 today. I might as well try to enjoy my last few days alive.

I walked through the dark streets of my city, being sure to keep to the shadows. I don't want to get caught by mutated, radiation poisoned creatures. My electric blue eyes darted side to side checking if the coast was clear. Even if all of the streets and buildings are deserted, you can never be too sure.

I started to cross the road but I froze as I heard a snarl coming from behind me. My throat turned dry and my palms turned sweaty. My face was drained of all of its colour and I felt my heart slamming against my rib cage. I made my stiff neck slowly turn around and I saw it. A giant mutated wolf. It had no fur, it's flesh was pink and you could see the veins underneath its slimy surface. It's snout sprouted large yellow fangs around five inches long, two inches wide.

Acidic saliva was pouring out of its mouth and its overly long tongue was snake like. It had claws the size if me and I stood at 5ft 2. This beast was HUGE. I strained my neck to look up and meet its completely black eye. It snarled at me making its corrosive spit fly everywhere and burn through the garbage on the littered ground. In an instant I turned around a ran, the beast following me.

I need to lure it into an open space where I can kill it, seemingly hard since the streets are crowded with scraps and debris. I swiftly ran around piles of garbage and sharp bends. I finally entered a somewhat large abandoned car park. I ran to a rusty crushed car and hid behind it. The beast rushed in, it's bulky frame smashing against the entrance of the car park.

I glanced at it and tried to silence my panting. I took my shaky hand and slowly got out my laser gun from my gun holster strapped to my back. So instead of a sword, it's a laser gun. My gun is the half the length of my arm but three times as wide. I straightened my arm and used my other arm to get out my other laser gun strapped to my back. I had twin guns and each was a masterpiece. I lifted both my arms up and a red visor covered my eyes. The visor helped me aim and see in pitch blackness. It can also make me see different heat signatures, radiation amount and objects coming my way.

I glared at the beast which was turned around, facing another way. I pointed my badass twin guns at it and aimed high.

"Oi mother fucker!" I snapped.

The beast turned all its attention to me. I smirked as it howled in bloodthirsty hunger.

"You hungry? Then taste this bitch!" I shouted and activated my laser guns and they fired a hot red laser straight through the beasts head. It screeched in agony and I watched it burn and its brains burst as it slowly disintegrated in ashes.

I quickly swung my guns back into their holsters to let them cool off and recharge. My visor automatically turned off to charge again. I stepped out of my hiding place and ran outside. I looked around and saw the sky getting darker. Shit. I need to hurry before its night time. I ran at the sidelines of the streets in the shadows, stopping every once in a while to check if the coast is clear.

I finally made it to a tall dirty building and entered. The halls were deserted, filled with trash and corpses of people and creatures. Blood was splattered all over the place. This is what I call home. I entered a small room and a small door at the side. I opened it and looked down the dimly lit staircase. I walked in and made sure to lock the small door behind me. I walked down the stairs and entered a science lab full of liquids in test tubes and advanced machines.
