I usually wasn't always the most outgoing person. Sure, I like to talk to people I know and hang out with close friends, but I never was that great at making new ones as I was somewhat shy. Last summer, I spent most of my time with my family and occasionally went to the beach with some friends. I wanted my summer this year, to be filled with more memories rather than doing the same old boring crap I did last year.
I sat at my grey school desk, staring aimlessly at the clock, watching it near the start of summer by the minute. It was the last day and I was sitting in history, wanting to kill myself as I hated it that much. I could faintly hear Mrs Williams' droning voice while I was daydreaming about all the things that I wanted to do over the summer. I had so much on my mind, but the two things that were on my "bucket list" for the summer were: 1) Learn how to surf and 2) Travel to Italy. However, I knew number 2 wouldn't be happening any time soon (and no, not that number 2 shh).
When the bell finally rang at exactly 3:15pm, everyone rushed out to their locker rooms to get out of what we liked to call, "Hell". The crowd of people was immense and I found it hard to get through everyone, especially when people decide to stop right in the middle of the path to have a long ass conversation. I put my head down and walked faster as I saw my old English teacher whom I strongly disliked. He used to always stop me at the end of each day to give me creepy compliments, whether that be of my hair, my most recent English assignment or even how my uniform looked good. I found the uniform one the most creepy as everyone else wore the same thing.
I continued to keep my head down even after I turned the corner. I wasn't exactly aware of my surroundings with my head down and accidentally bumped into this tall girl who had long, dark brown hair and wore cute glasses. We both dropped our books in surprise and I apologised to her quickly while trying to gather her books up. She was doing the same with mine.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you like that", I mumbled, after returning the books.
"That's alright! My name is Kassie," she said confidently, "and this is my friend Jaydan."
Kassie's friend, Jaydan, was about my height, slightly taller and had her luscious hair in a low pony tail. The three of us started talking about ourselves. I found out that Kassie liked 5 Seconds of Summer and that Jaydan was in the cross country team at school. I felt comfortable talking to them, even though I had just met them. It almost felt like I had been friends with them for a long time and we were just catching up on each other's lives.
I lost track of time and realised it was 4:30pm when I checked my phone. I panicked a little as I thought of how angry my mum would be at me for taking so long.
"I'm really sorry but I have to go, my mum's been waiting for a while," I said quickly.
"That's okay! It's been really great talking to you," Jaydan replied.
"Hey, the three of us should hang out over the summer!" Kassie exclaimed.
"Yeah, that sounds really good!" Jaydan said. Funnily enough, I was thinking the exact same.
Jaydan and Kassie gave me their numbers and I gave them mine. Then I hurried to my locker to pack my bags and head off home. As I packed my books into my navy blue school bag, I thought of the conversation that Jaydan, Kassie and I had and suddenly knew that the summer was going to be more than just great. It was going to be amazing.
