I was in the forest with my boyfriend, Arthur, my hair flying around me as we ran. He was chasing me. I laughed and he caught me. He lifted me up and spun me around.
“Hey no fair, you said I could have a head start!” I squealed.
“I did! You’re just really slow.” He put me down and smiled. I looked up at him in mock anger. Something caught my eye behind him. I moved him over and walked to it. It was a tail. Well more like a wolf’s tail. I turned to Arthur.
“Look it’s a wolf’s tail! Let’s take it home!” I exclaimed. He nodded and picked it up. He wrapped it with his sweater and placed it in his bag. “Ok I think it’s time to go home. It’s getting late.” We walked back towards our house. When we got there Arthur stopped me.
“Hey remember that one legend you told me about?” I looked at him confused. “The one about that if you find a wolf’s tail you get three wishes?” my eyes widened and I nodded vigorously.
“Yes I do remember! Well we found the tail. Should we make wishes?” I asked excitedly.
“No I’m not sure if we should. What if the wishes back fire? Remember all the shows with wishes? Every single one ended up back firing! What if that happens to us?” Arthur panicked. I sighed and rustled his messy blonde hair. His unusually big eyebrows scrunched together in frustration. “You know I hate it when you do that.” He grumbled.
“Oh stop being a poor sport. That was in the movies! It’s not like the wishes will come true. It’s probably a fake. But let’s at least try just in case. Here I’ll even go first!” I said and headed for his backpack. I opened it and saw the tail wrapped half way with the sweater. I pulled the tail out and headed back into the living room.
“Please don’t Calla… it could be dangerous!” Arthur whispered. I glared at him.
“Oh just shut up! I’ll be careful!” I held the tail up to my eye level and stared at it. “I wish…. I wish we could stay forever young!” I just stared at the tail when it twitched. I yelped and dropped it. “Oh My God, It… It moved! I swear the tail just twitched!” Arthur came over and looked at it.
“Do you feel any different?” he asked. I stood there searching for something inside me to be different, nothing but hunger. I shook my head.
“What about you?” he stood there eyebrows scrunched in concentration.
“No.” he replied. I nodded and headed to the kitchen. I went to the fridge and opened it to reveal lots of fruits and vegetables. I groaned.
“Do we have any meat in this fridge?” I asked. Arthur shook his head.
“I thought you were a vegetarian?” he asked.
“Not anymore. I hate always having to eat vegetables!” I yelled and slammed the fridge closed. I stormed to the basement and opened the fridge. The thing was filled with different meats. I nearly drooled from hunger. I snatched one and tore open the package. I sunk my teeth in and my eyes rolled back from the taste. It was delicious. Then my brain caught up with my actions. I choked and spit the raw meat out. I started coughing. I ran upstairs to the bathroom. I washed my mouth out and stared at my reflection. Something was wrong, but what? My hair was the same. My skin was the same. My nose was the same. My teeth were the same. Finally I looked at my eyes, and screamed. They were glowing gold. Like a wolf’s eye. I stumbled back and slid against the counter. I closed my eyes and put my head in my hands. My body shook. I took a deep breath and stood up slowly. I looked into the mirror. My eyes were back to the normal magenta color they were before. I sighed and walked out of the bathroom.
