Three devilish creatures spring out of the base's entrance, teeth bared and claws sharpened. The Bizerks launch at us, searching for the taste of fresh blood. We quickly summon our weapons, ready to defend ourselves. They attack each of us individually, allowing both sides of the battle to get a few hits.
"The ones that were watching us earlier must of been spies or something. They knew we were coming." Alex yells while shooting at an aggravated Bizerk.
"You idiots! We've been watching you ever since you arrived here and you haven't even noticed! Ha! Pathetic humans!" One of the Bizerks snarls.
"Who are you calling pathetic?" Laura yells, suddenly bursting into a rampage, hitting the creature. The Bizerk falls to the ground, barely alive, and surrenders. The second Bizerk has a go at Emily, who in turn, throws a knife in it's eye. It screams, then pulls back, before a final knife finishes it off. The last creatures aims for my weakest point, my arm. It manages to knock my injury a couple of times, making me grit my teeth, but does not inflict any damage. With a few failed attempts to kill the attacker, I swing my sword one last time. I finally strike the heart, ending the battle.
"Everyone ok?" Haley asks. We all nod our heads before entering the Bizerk's base.We find ourselves in a maze of dirt passages and tunnels. They are well lit and quite stable, with carefully carved word and arrows pointing to different areas within the underground city. Surprisingly, the base doesn't have many Bizerks in it. The ones we do come across we kill, before they kill us. We work our way downwards, figuring that the crystal will be at the lowest point of the base. I look at the end of the passage and see that it leads into a much larger tunnel. In the wall is the words: 'Main Tunnel 1'. It's obviously used like a kind of highway, it's absolutely crawling with Bizerks.
"Well we can't go this way, we'd be killed in a matter of seconds." Haley explains.
"We could try going down passage 179." Emily replies, reading the sign of a side passage next to us.
"Well, we've got nothing better to try." I say as I stare down the long tunnel. Passage 179 is a lot thinner than the others, it's also quite dim. It's a passage that we won't be able to run away in, making it not one of our better ideas. As we wander through, I wonder. What is Mum doing? Is she ok? Are the horses ok? Will life just go back to normal when we return? As I think through all of my questions, my stomach starts turning. How do we know for certain that destroying the crystal will bring us home? What if we are stuck here forever? I start to doubt all my hopes and wishes, until I truly feel ill. Suddenly I vomit on the side of the passage wall. Everyone turns and looks at me.
"Are you ok there Tahlia?" Alex asks, screwing up his face. I give him unsure thumbs up, then gesture everyone to keep moving. I then decide to shake the thoughts out of my head and continue with the group. The tunnel takes a couple of sharp turns, a right, a left then another right. When the passageway straightens out, without any warning, it takes a steep drop. We descend the slope, struggling to keep balance.
"Does this tunnel ever end?" Haley asks, almost falling over.
"Be patient!" Laura replies quickly. Up ahead I notice the passage get notably lighter. The light is coming from a large doorway, with a sign roughly scratched above. I read the sign, 'Room 501 - T.O.E Planning Room'.
"That makes no sense, the toe planning room." Emily states. Intrigued, we carefully peer into to the room. In the center of the room there's a dirt mound, flattened on the top and used as a table. Surrounding the table are Bizerks, all starring at the heavily marked back wall. Standing in front of the wall is the head Bizerk, explaining the complicated array of lines and words. We study the lines carefully, first reading the heading: Taking Over Earth (T.O.E). Shocked, we decide to eavesdrop on whatever the head Bizerk is saying.
"We are currently in the process of finalizing the plans. The head of the T.O.E operation will be picking out the highly trained warriors, who will carry out the mission, tonight. The actual mission will take place tomorrow morning and will end as soon as the whole of human kind is obliterated. You lot are in charge of tracking the progress of the warriors. Now any questions?" The Bizerk says. We turn to face one another, utterly shocked.
"How is this even possible? The Bizerks are planning to take over Earth! We can't let this happen." Haley blurts out.
"We've got to stay calm, ok? When we destroy the Olivine Crystal, we'll destroy the Bizerks and their plan as well. This new piece of information doesn't change our plan, it only means that we've got a time limit." Alex whispers calmly. We give him a nod, agreeing with every word he said.
"Let's keep going." I say, realizing how dangerous our current position is.
We continue walking until we reach the end of Passage 179, a small, unnamed room. By the looks of it, the room is still under construction, with marks on the walls indicating where tunnels will be. Standing in the room is a lonesome Bizerk. It spins around, ready to kill. As we prepare for the fight, Emily yells out to everyone.
"Wait! No one kill it, just get it into a position where it can't hurt anyone!"
"Why?" Haley asks, confused.
"Just do it." Emily replies. The Bizerk starts attacking, trying its best to damage us. We trap it into the corner of the room, using our bodies to block any escape. Emily steps forward, knife in hand, and pushes it to the ground. It lays helplessly on the floor, having Emily's foot on its chest, making sure it cannot move. She rests the tip of her knife on the Bizerk's skin, incase it goes to do any wrong moves.
"Now, if you want to live, tell me this. Where do you keep the Olivine Crystal?" Emily asks the creature.
"Why would I tell you something like that?" It hisses. Emily presses the knife a little harder, causing a slight trickle of blood to run down the Bizerk's body.
"Do you want me to kill you?" Emily snaps back, suddenly losing patience.
"Fine! The Olivine Crystal is located in room 6, near the entrance. But you'll never get there, not if I can help i-" Emily stops the Bizerk finishing his sentence, deciding that it's to risky to keep this creature alive.
"We've got the information we need, so let's keep going." Emily says, already walking back the way we came. We stare at her, shocked and impressed. The kill happened so quickly that it was hard to believe that it just occurred. We retrace our steps to the base's entrance, then navigate our way to Room 6. Sure enough, there's sign carved carefully into the outer wall of the circular shaped room reading: 'Room 6 - The Olivine Crystal'.
"We have actually found it!" Laura exclaims cheerfully.
"Just hold the excitement, we've got to find the door first." I say, realizing there's no obvious entrance. We walk around the outside of the room, searching for somewhere to enter the room. When we find nothing, we feel the wall, hoping to stumble across a secret entrance.
"There is absolutely no way of getting inside!" Haley concludes.
"Well this is annoying." I say, putting my hands on my hips. For a couple of minutes we do nothing but think, until Alex comes up with an idea. He puts his ear to the dirt wall and listens to the inside of the room. Once satisfied with what he heard, he faces us and explains everything.
"Ok, so inside the room I could hear running water, meaning that there's a stream or something in there. My thoughts are that there's an above ground stream that flows underground into the room. We need to find that stream, swim into through it then end up in Room 6."
"Why do we need to swim." Haley complains. We all ignore her and discuss the plan. In the end everyone agrees with Alex's brilliant idea. After an hour of searching above the surface we come across a stream that is not to far away from the Bizerk's Base. As we had suspected earlier, the stream disappears below the ground heading in the general direction of Room 6.
"I think this is it! I say we go now and find out!" Alex says excitedly.
"Wait, we can't swim with our bags and things. We're going to have to decide what we need to take home with us and what can get destroyed along with Olivine." I say, putting my bag down on the bank of the stream.
"Your right." Laura replies. We pick out our belongings, which will probably be wrecked anyway by the time we finish our swim. We take off any extra clothing, such us jumpers, before taking deep breaths and diving in. The swim above ground is peaceful and relaxing, taking away any nerves I have about the task ahead. We take another breath, then continue with the underground leg of the swim. The stream below the ground is dark and cold, completely opposite to what we just swam through. Suddenly we endure a short fall into a gorgeous pool of crystal clear water, inside Room 6. In the center of the pool is a small island of soft dirt, and in the middle of that, sits the glowing Olivine Crystal, perched on a majestic stand made from tree roots. We pull ourselves onto the little island, our breaths taken away at the sight of the crystal.
"We've made it." Emily breaths, as we crowd around the precious gem.
"I'm kind of sad that we've made to the end of our quest. We'll probably never see each other again." Haley states sadly.
"Emily and Tahlia, we could quickly give you our details, before we go destroying the world." Alex suggests with a bit of humor. We quickly exchange details, hoping to meet up again soon.
"Who's going to destroy the crystal?" I ask, deciding to focus on the job.
"I think you should, Tahlia. Does everyone agree?" Laura says, while the others nod in agreement.
"I'll do it, if you guys absolutely agree." I reply. As everyone nods, I draw my sword and face the crystal.
"This has been an amazing experience to have with you guys. I'll never ever forget any of it. We could never of found the way back without you. Thank you." Emily says, holding back tears. Actually, everyone is struggling not to cry.
"Ready?" I ask.
"Yes." The others say in unison. I hold my sword up and aim it straight for the crystal, then taking a final glance at everyone, I smash my sword down. I pull my sword out just to see the Olivine Crystal split in two. A blinding light surrounds us.Suddenly we are swallowed by darkness.
