Sleeping Heart [Jackunzel Modern]

It would've been a normal day but he could sense something was up.

Jack looked up from his plate of steak and mashed potatoes to see his usually jolly girlfriend glaring at her own food while poking it with her fork.

"So I found this book in the library all about ancient findings and discoveries" Hiccup says, who was sitting next to him, to Merida.

She was clearly just nodding, pretending to be listening.

" Guess what! About a thousand years ago, some say that they found dragon bones! Isn't that cool?"

Jack nudged him making Hiccup wince and turn to him in annoyance "What?"

Jack tilted his head towards the silent blonde girl sitting across him. Merida turns to her, she was right next to Rapunzel.

She swallowed her mouthful of fries before speaking " Ye alrigh' lass? "She asks in her Scottish accent.

Rapunzel slightly jumps at the sound of her voice, dropping the fork down her untouched plate of salad and buns. "Er...y-yeah I'm f-fine" she stammers.

The three exchanged worried glances "Anything you haven't been telling us Punzie?" Jack asks.

"Er...nothing it's just that I still got tons of paperworks for our uh Club you know being the secretary and all" She says with her eyes glued to the table.

Jack wasn't convinced that this is all the trouble but before he could even persuade her to spill the beans, the bell rang indicating the end of Lunch Break.

Rapunzel jumped out of her seat and grabbed her stuff "Gotta run, bye guys"

The three watched as she ran out of the cafeteria.

It was Hiccup's turn to nudge Jack to the side. Rapunzel was at her locker stuffing her books in and slammed it shut. Merida was at her side asking her what's really bothering her.

"I told you Mer, Paperworks" Rapunzel says dully before walking past the confused red head.

"Go on now, Run after her" Hiccup hissed and Jack obeyed.

"Punzie!" Jack calls hoping that she'll turn to him but she just walked faster.

It took a while before he managed to catch up with her. "Come on, don't shut me out" Jack whispers, trying to catch his breath

Rapunzel bowed her head low and shook her head "I need some time alone Jack"

"What's the problem? Is it me? Did I do something? You can tell me, come on. Am I not a good bo-"

"My dad is dying and he's gonna marry Gothel" Rapunzel says looking up to him with teary eyes.

Jack fell silent. He knew her story, Rapunzel's mom died three years ago because of cancer and that almost tore her apart. He managed to cheer her up and bring her back to her usual jolly self. Her dad met Gothel just a year ago and they've been seeing each other eversince.

Of course Rapunzel wasn't so happy about it thinking that it was too soon for her dad to replace her mom and hurt to know he can replace her at all.

Even though Rapunzel didn't like the idea of her dad dating someone, she still respected Gothel.

Jack closed his mouth and pulled her towards him for a hug. Rapunzel broke down and buried her face to his chest.

"He d-didn't want me to b-be alone w-when he dies so h-he thought th-that I needed a new m-mother" Rapunzel says, her voice cracking.

Jack huggef her tight, listening to her. "I'm gonna lose the only family I have left"
