Lexi's Pov
I opened the shop at around 8 o'clock. Usually, we don't get busy until noon, but my dad wanted me to open it early. I work at my dad's shop. He pays me 9 dollars an hour (yay dad!) and I work with like 6 other people. They're all around my age and they're really cool. So my dad's shop is called "Tim's Souvenir Shop". It's a cute shop kind of in the middle part of the boardwalk.
Right now, since the shop isn't that busy, I sat and read a magazine. Today was one of the rare days when I was working by myself. Everyone else was occupied with other stuff, but I don't mind. My dad said that he's going to come back at like noon so...at least I have that to look foward to. I was busy reading Seventeen Magazine, when I heard the bell alerting me that we had a customer. It was around 9:30ish now so usually people start coming in.
"Hello," I began saying to the older couple that came in, "if there is anything that I can help you with please let me know."
I have to say this to every customer that comes in although I don't really think that they'll need a lot of help picking out magnets and postcards. After the couple left, a woman and her son came in. The boy looked about 5 years old. He had a coin jar with him (aw. cute!) and he was looking at the toy ships and boats on the shelf near the front desk where I was. I said the required greeting and patiently waited for them to find what they wanted.
The little boy then came up to me.
"Excuse me miss?"
I bent down to his level and asked, "yes young man, how can I help you?"
"How much is the blue boat with the red stripes?" He pointed to the boat.
I looked to where he was pointing and said,"This boat is $5, but since you are probably the most adorable boy I've ever seen in my life, I'll give it to you for $3."
He grinned eagerly and I looked up at the mom and we smiled at each other.
I took the boat over to the cash register and the boy and his mom were on the other side over the counter. I motioned for the boy to come over to me and I whispered in his ear, "I'm only doing this for you, so don't tell anyone, promise?" He nodded. He opened his coin jar and his mom helped him count $3. It was sooooo cute! I finished checking them out and then I waved them goodbye.
That little boy was so adorable. I only have one older brother so I don't really have experience with younger siblings, but my mom is a pediatrician, so she works with kids all day. Lucky.

The day went pretty slow with only a few customers coming in and out. Now, it's around lunchtime and around this time, the beach starts filling up which means more customers. That's the thing about working on a boardwalk, it's inevitable that you'll have customers.
"Hey pumpkin," my dad says as he walks in the shop. "How's my favorite daughter?"
"I'm your only daughter, dad."
"You don't know that," my dad says obviously joking... I hope.
"Well, if I'm not the only one, then I won't tell the others that I'm your favorite."
We both laughed and then he came over to give me a hug. My dad is a super laid back kind of guy. I remember, there was this one time when I told him that I just wanted to Netflix and chill with Hailey (my bff) and he ACTUALLY knew what that meant!(BTW: we use the literall meaning of Netflix and Chill which is to watch Netflix and chill out) I love my dad. My mom on the other hand is super serious about work and stuff. I mean, she is a doctor so you can't really mess around with that. It's not like you can accidentally put the needle in the wrong place and go "oops".
