Just Swinging

Chapter 1

The mid-August wind blew thought the small town elementary school playground. A small pale boy sat on the swings humming a song he heard on the tv last night, while he tried to drown out his parents constant yelling. He sat on a little swing set all alone. He was swaying gently his toes just reaching the play sand under his worn out, Velcro tennis shoes.

He was a simple quiet boy who was content with playing and entertaining himself, even at such a young age.

"Kurt!"

The small boy lifted his head and looked towards the voice. The corners of his mouth fell as he looked in the small blonde girls direction. She pointed at him and other came and looked at him. This was his least favorite part of recess.

"Look its fairy-boy!"

"Such a loser!"

One after another, each student was getting an insult his way. He didn't retaliate or defend himself. However, he did hum louder and start to swing. He did his best to ignore what the other children were saying to him.

"CHILDREN! RECESS IS OVER!" A thin, beautiful teacher announced. Every student began rushing to the teacher known as Mrs. Hummel.

She was a pretty and was only the ripe age of 27. She taught kindergarten and was Kurt's favorite teacher. She noticed she was missing a child from the group and automatically knew who it was.

"Mrs. Appleby?"

An older, much chubbier teacher looked her way.

"Yes, dear." The elder woman replied.

"Can you take my class in for me? I have to find a student." She asked, face filled with worrie.

"Of course, sweetheart! Go find him!"

And she ran to look for him, and when she found him he was swinging and singing a song. Tears rushing down his face.

"Kurt it's time for class."

He looked at the teacher with horror and sadness.

"Sorry, Mrs. H.. I was just swinging."
