I'm running from something. The forest is a blur as I run. It is the dead of night but I can see everything in the darkness. As I run, the creature's cold breathe runs down my neck and I could feel in his hands reaching out to grab me. I ran faster, but he was too quick for me. He grabbed my arm and threw me to the ground with such force it could have killed any other person. I tried getting up but he lashed out and I was on my back again. He stood over me and just laughed.
I could barely depict his facial features because the hood of his cloak shrouded it in darkness. But his eyes I could see perfectly. They cast an eerie red glow in the darkness. He had something in his hands. When I realized what it was I let out a threatening growl. It was a wooden stake! He saw me staring at it and snickered.
I tried to move but the burning of his his eyes paralyzed me. I couldn't move any limb in my body. He enjoyed watching me struggle to get away. He knelt beside my paralyzed body and whispered in my ear, "So sorry my dear but if you refuse to help me, then you are no longer of use to me." I felt a sinking feeling in my chest. The fight was over; he had won and I was going to die. At least now my soul would be free from the damned life I was supposed to live for eternity. I guess what he would do was more of a blessing than a curse.
He then raised the stake high above his head. I laid there helplessly on the cold damp earth waiting for him to strike. From there it all seemed to be in slow motion. His hand fell through the air with the stake drifting closer and closer to my chest. I closed my eyes and waited for him to finish the job but at the last minute, I let out one final cry before a searing pain ripped through my chest. It was but for a few seconds but the intense burning in my chest was nothing short of bewildering.
Then all was silent. When I opened my eyes, I could see nothing but darkness. I could no longer feel the pain from where he drove his stake into my chest. I was far from the world I had been doomed to live forever but just as far away from him. I felt as if a heaviness was lifted off me. This was the end, all my suffering was over. My soul was finally free. Or so I thought.
