We walked down the sidewalk, side by side, watching for our next victim.
The streets were quite tonight.
Strange.
I looked over at mason, his eyes were dark with crime written all over them. Cocky much?
"Mason don't go for a grab you can't handle." I stated bluntly.
Looking over at me he glared. "Get over yourself Katherine. I'm not as weak as I used to be."
I laughed sarcastically.
"Ah, yes! I forgot every since you got that v-card of yours taken away by the stripper you clearly lied to about how much money you have. Well let's just say you've been thinking that you're superman or something." I smirked, looking up at the sugar sprinkled night sky. Beautiful.
"She was a good fuck!" Mason groaned.
I frowned "We were without a place to stay for a month mason."
His glare could have killed me. Meeting his eyes I laughed. "Hey I'm not judging saggy boobs. You gotta do what you gotta do."
Lord knows that if it came down to it I would do the same to put a roof over Mason's head and food in his stomach.
"Hey Kat, look at that."
I looked up at Mason's finger, following its line. A ragged man stood slumped against a wall of a bar. He couldn't be more than maybe forty, his hair was just beginning to grey, and it looked like it hadn't been washed or tended to in years.
I wrinkled my nose at the thought.
How can people live like this?
Looking over to mason, I noticed that he wasn't sure about the guy either, but he knew that he may also be our only chance.
"So how are we gonna play this Bambi" I said taking note of every movement that his body made.
He groaned a bit and rolled his eyes causing a laugh to tumble from my lips.
"Come on Kat, don't you think I've outgrown that stupid nickname?" I laughed harder. He's always hated being called that, but when he was younger before he could walk he looked just like Bambi tripping over his own feet.
I smiled to myself at the memory.
"Awe come on Bambi. It's so cute and fits you perfectly a lamb trying to grow up too fast." I patted his head, then turned back to the old man.
"Seriously. What's our game plan?"
"I say we play the have-you-seen-my-younger-brother card with the bastard. That or you bat those eyelashes and give him a little peek at the girls while I grab his wallet."
I rolled my eyes "whatever mason, don't get caught."
"I could say the same to you."
"Perv."
*****
I glared at Mason as he threw his head back in laughter."If you're not gonna help then go make sure grandpa is still out front." I hissed out while messing up my hair a bit more and pulling my shirt down to give me more cleavage.
"I'm sorry, it's just that you're my sister and-" he cut himself off with another cackle then stalked off to the corner of the alley to make sure the coast was clear.
My eyes followed his trail and awaited anxiously for the thumbs up. Seconds felt like minutes and minutes felt like hours.
Mason looked back at me guilt filling his eyes, but it was gone just as quick as it had came. "You ready Kat?"
