"Smile. All you have to do is smile, and be pretty, and you will fit in."Ditching the glasses was the first thing she knew she had to do. Contacts were definitely the way to go. Also, what would her start of a new look be without a perm in her hair, and a nice little smile. This was what happened her eighth grade year. She ditched the glasses, got a perm, and added a smile to her every day life. And you know what? She started to get noticed.
Once the perm had grown out and straightened out, she made sure she still kept up on her hair daily.Always having it to perfection. Perfectly straight or perfectly curled, and never up. Once she felt secure enough in her last year of middle school she gained a friend or two.
She felt confident having a friend. Better, stronger, more empowered. She was so happy to finally have someone there for her and have someone to lean on and to be able to be a shoulder for someone else to lean on as well. But no amount of friends could ever protect her from or prepare her for what she was about to endure entering high school. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Her first real friend was a sweet girl who was home schooled until eighth grade year. As soon as she showed up Kaitlyn knew she needed to make a friend now that she had a new look. She introduced herself, welcomed this new girl, and offered to show her around and be there for anything she needed. It was time to not be alone anymore. Once she made this friend named Amelia, she was attached. She had never really had a friend before and suddenly she had a BEST friend in Amelia. They lived close to each other and were able to spend a lot of time together.
Kaitlyn spent as much time with Amelia as she could. They would do all kinds of things together and Kaitlyn loved finally having a friend to talk to about everything. She felt like things in life might actually turn around for her. But this was eighth grade. What did Kaitlyn really know?
