Chapter 1: The Journalist

The Daily Reporter, this is the place I've dedicated my career to, even if my entire career started two years ago when I finished my last year of college. I was a newbie and hadn't gotten my 'big break' yet, I was just waiting for that one story that would change my life, and my career, forever.

I had thought that today was the day, something big had happened. All the reporters within a fifty mile radius were on top of the story. When my boss had called me from my desk I thought it was it, I had been fidgeting ever since I saw it this morning. The local bank had been robbed and citizens taken hostage only twenty minutes ago. I still had time to get down there and cover the story if I hurried, and then my name will finally be out there for the world to see. Even if it was just a name on a headliner story it didn't matter as long as it was my name on that headlining story.

"Rookie, I need you to cover a story." The ruff man picked up a thick Cuban cigar, pulled a lighter out of his shirt pocket, and lit the cigar.

"Of course sir-" I replied immediately only to get cut off by the end of the boss's statement.

"Down on Maple Street, it's a nice little place." With a sigh the man let out a ring of smoke filling the air with the bitter sweet smell of his cigar.

"Wait! Maple Street? Why not Oakland, where the bank robbery is?"

"Now why in the name of Sam Hell would I send you down there rookie?"

"Well sir, to cover the bank robbery of course!" I had turned from excited to alarm to frantic all in the course of five minutes.

"Rookie, I got all my best crime reporters down there covering the damn thing the last thing I need is for you to go getting in everybody's way. Got it?"

"Yes sir." And there it was my chance at fame out of my reach again.

"Now get your ass down to Maple Street and cover the damn story." He leaned over his desk and pointed to me using his thick cigar. I was walking out of the office when I realized I was missing the most important piece of information a reporter could have. What the story was about.

"Uh, sir?"

"What is it rookie?"

"I need the information on the story."

"Ah right, Porlar should have it on your desk by now."

I stalked out to my desk and sunk down into my chair. Porlar came through the office door carrying a large amount of papers and folders for the fellow reporters. Chase Porlar was the boss's assistant, and his nephew, he mainly handed out papers and got coffee for others. He was good at his job. As he came to drop off the papers for me he tripped over the trashcan by the desk in front of mine. Papers went flying, chairs went sprawling, and Chase yelped like a little school girl in July, his toothpick thin arms flailed in the air as he tumbled to the ground.

I sighed, "Again Chase?"

He chuckled; looking up he adjusted his glasses causing a beam of sunlight to reflect off the glasses and into my eyes. I leaned over offering a helping hand for the scattered papers.

"Ah, here you go." He said handing me a file with my name on it. "It's your latest assignments."

I opened the file and pulled three pieces of paper out. One was about a couple on Maple Street, the other about a student in Rickler High, and the last one about a local Humane Society. I always get encased in these papers whenever I get handed them, even if I wanted something more exciting, realizing moments have passed I returned to my work. I forgot to thank Chase for the papers, but when I looked up he was already gone handing out papers to the next journalist. Routinely I would research about each topic, formulate questions, and then go interview my subjects. Once again, like every other day, I would start my work hopefully getting a headliner one day.

Okay so this my first ever post to anything remotely like Wattpad. I can't promise speedy updates, because its finals for me, but stay for the ride and I hope you'll enjoy it! Thanks for reading feedback would be wonderful, a vote would be absolutely amazing, but most of all please continue reading the story is mainly fluffy romance moments with loads of lovable banters. Thanks for partaking in my first post, again I hope you enjoyed yourself.
