The Weeks End

It was dark.  It was damp.  It was my nightmare.

It was ordinary, the dark brick wall surrounding me, rain hitting all around me, and no sound.  I had just counted the noises from last week’s dreams were just the door and nothing more.  Nonetheless, I found myself walking towards the wall and laying my ear against it.  Something inside of me wanted it to be real something, or someone, on the other side making the noise.

I closed my eyes and rested for a bit, even in a dream I was restless.

Suddenly I heard something.  It wasn’t the same sound of the door, no it was words.  Someone was calling my name.  But who?  I tried overwhelmingly hard to wake myself up, but how does one go about waking themselves up from a dream?

After several long moments I sat down, I was extremely tired and hadn’t slept in days, maybe if I fell asleep I might wake up.  Either way I was going to take a nap.

“-inter, Hey sleepy wak-“  I stirred, twisting onto my back but ultimately kept my eyes closed.  “-ey you’re a very heavy sleeper mis-“  Who was talking?  Was this some kind of strange dream within a dream? “Wint-“ What was so heavy on me?  “If you don’t wake up right now I will wake you with a kiss.”  What?

My eyes shot open, suddenly I was wide awake.  I instantly recognized the voice now, along with the blonde curls that hung over my face. “Why hello there Sam, what on earth are you doing here?” I somehow managed a calm and controlled voice.  Amazing.

“Well I was trying to wake you up…” Trailing off he averted his eyes and a large grin made its way onto his face.

“A-and this is how you chose to go about it?  Getting on top of me and threatening to face rape me?”

Defensively he said, “You are a very heavy sleeper.  First I was calling your name, then I was poking you, then I resorted to shaking.“  He looked at me and smirked.  “But this worked best.”

“That still leaves the question of how you got in my apartment.”  To say I was affected by his smirk was an understatement.  “And why?”

“For one I broke in, and two I was making you breakfast.”  He moved a hair from my face, which was also under my head so all he really did was tug on it.

I was about to defend myself and say how ridiculous his reasoning’s were, but he didn’t give me time to say anything.  “You’re really cute right now.  Do I still get that kiss?”

I felt a rush of heat in my cheeks, “What? No!”  I started pushing Sam off me.  “Get off of me, perv.”  And I leaped out of bed.  He fell backwards with a chuckle.  “What?”

“Nice pajamas!”

“Huh?”  I looked down; I was sporting a set of dark Eeyore pajamas.  My pants loose and baggy were resting low on my hips, whereas, the tank top was rumpled up and hugging my figure limply.  I ran into the bathroom with red cheeks and a racing heart Sam was experiencing fits of laughter on my bed.  After a while, a long while, the laughter slowed and eventually stopped.

“Winter come out I made some bacon!”

“Go home Sam!”  I said leaning my back against the door.

Another couple of moments passed and Sam had made no noise.  Had he actually gone home?

“Sam?  Sam are you still here?”  There was a slight tick and then the door, and I with it, swung backwards.  Sam was there pulling the door open, it swung and hit the wall.  I was still clutching the door.  “Huh? H-how?”

Sam leaned his arms against the wall on either side of me, blocking any viable exit. “I picked the lock.”

“I didn’t figure you for the delinquent type.  Wait is that how you got in here?

“Yes.  Winter” A sudden seriousness edged into Sam’s voice.  “why don’t you come to school?”

“Why is it your concern?”

“Because I want to know more about you.”  Sam was getting closer.

“How much do you want to know?”

“All of it.”

I couldn’t take this seriousness, but most of all I couldn’t take how close he was.  Feeling his breath on my lips and cheeks was unbearable, and his body heat was emanating off of him like a stove.  Sam had to hunch over to even be close to eye level.  Those eyes were fantastic; it seemed that they darkened a few shades of brown with his attitude, but eventually his eyes weren’t locked with mine.  My lips were what he was looking at, and then he muttered something I almost didn’t hear.

“Can I kiss you now?”  I was breathless.  However, reflexes kicked in and I pushed him away and ran into my kitchen.  I turned around to see Sam standing there smiling his eyes were a light brown again and he was now the Sam I knew.  Which was better for my heart anyway.  “Aw you’re so cute when you’re frantic.  Are you sure I can’t kiss you?”  He chuckled.

What was this guy thinking?  Quickly I grabbed something and held it in front of me like a sword.  Sam clutched his stomach and doubled over laughing.  “What are you laughing at?”

“Y-you’re going to-to defend yourself with that?” He said in between chuckles.  I looked at my ‘sword’ as it turns out I grabbed a plastic spatula.

I chucked the spatula at him.  “Shut up!”

And then for the next hour or so we were chasing each other around my apartment, hitting each other with pillows, and making snide remarks.  It lasted until I was pulled to the ground and pinned under Sam.  He was holding both my wrists in his hands.  Both of us were breathing deeply attempting to retrieve some breath.

“I finally got you.”

“Congratulations.”

“You know you’re pretty hard to chase down.”

“I try to make people’s life hard in any way I can.”

“You’re really beautiful; I’m going to kiss you.”

I was speechless.  I closed my eyes.  His breath was on my skin once again, but a kiss didn’t fall on my lips.  Instead something cold and wet brushed the tip of my nose.  My eyes shot open to see Sam wearing a huge smirk with his tongue hanging half out of his mouth.

“Next time you are this cute I will kiss you.  Good-bye Winter.”  He proceeded to leave my apartment, leaving me still in shock.

“Samwise you perv!”  I yelled after my brain finished comprehending what had just occurred.

One thing was for sure, school on Monday was going to be hell for my heart.
