Clawd Wolf

Monday: September 28, 2015

College classes had started back up a week or so ago. Honestly, it was something I was thankful for. Classes gave me something to do. They kept my mind off of Draculaura. They kept my mind off of the fact that my own wolf had tried to trick me into believing that Draculaura was my mate. What kind of werewolf was I that my own wolf didn't know what the hell it wanted?

It was actually quite ridiculous.

Anyway, it didn't matter. At college, I didn't have to see her. She had dropped out. I didn't even know where she was any more. I had heard rumors that she was staying in a hotel somewhere, only leaving to see Caleb or Clawdeen, sometimes Abbey. Every now and then, I'd ask Clawdeen for an update.

No, the update wasn't because I was obsessed with Draculaura. It wasn't because I was in love with her. It wasn't even because my wolf believed she was my mate. No.

I just wanted to know if she was okay. She was my sister's best friend. Of course it mattered to me if she was okay. Typically, Clawdeen would give me a pretty genetic answer.

She's okay. She's fine. She's doing well.

I wanted more than that, but it lived with it. I had even asked Caleb how she was doing a time or two. He had given me a little smile, told me she was fine. She was happy and healthy. He said she was still taking online courses so she could still get her college degree.

I respected that. And I respected Caleb even more for treating me like a respectable monster. He didn't treat me like I was a bad guy, which I most certainly was. I had tried to make a bet with him on the only woman he had ever loved.

I was a horrible werewolf, a horrible monster. He knew that, and he still treated me nicely. I had so much respect for him that it was unbelievable.

"Excuse me?"

I looked up. The girl was talking to me. I pulled my headphones away from my ears and let them hang around my neck instead. "Yeah?"

"Are you in biology?" she asked. I picked up on her southern accent. It was heavy and very present. She must've just moved to the Midwest for college.

"I am. Why?"

"Do you understand the assignment given today?"

"That research paper?" I asked. She nodded. "Yeah, I do. Need help?" I asked.

"Oh, I would love some help." She pulled out the chair in front of me and sat down. Her eyes were bright yellow. Her curly, brown hair was highlighted with little hints of blue here and there. Even though I couldn't see her ears because of the beanie she we wearing, I knew in my heart that she was a werewolf. And she was beautiful.

I held my hand out across the table. "Clawd."

She smiled warmly and slipped her hand into mine. "I'm Stella."

Somewhere inside of me, my wolf was repeating the same word over and over again:

Mine.
