She was oddly unattractive. Her hair was hideously choppy, it was a shade of reddish-pink probably from a botched attempt at dyeing it, and her glasses hung crookedly on the end of her nose resulting in her continuous attempts at pushing them back up. He couldn't help but wonder just how on earth one became that ugly.

Even makeup wouldn't make her face any more appealing, he thought. Sighing, he wondered why she had even bothered coming to class so early if she was just planning to sleep through it. Not that he could stop himself from losing focus. The professor's monotonous voice appeared to have been tailor made for putting students to sleep. Alec counted a good six or seven who'd started napping at their desks. As the class went on, he found that he couldn't take his eyes from the ugly girl sitting a few rows down from him.

What is her name, he wondered. As the class came to wraps, he rose up from his seat and walked up to her. "What's your name?" he asked.

"Wiley," she answered, looking away from him.

"You're very ugly, Wiley. It hurts my eyes." His statement was cold, almost cruel. Wiley looked up defiantly, "I didn't ask you to look at me, did I?" she retorted angrily.

Alec laughed and ignored the stares of the others as they fled the classroom like a flock of lemmings. "No, I guess you didn't." He offered his hand, "I'm Alec. Alec West." Wiley didn't pay him any mind as she zipped her pack closed. "Good for you. I'm going to be late to my next class, so," she tried to get passed him.

He deliberately stepped in her way. "Skip it. Come with me for coffee."

Wiley's eyes widened in surprise and suspicion, "And why would I do that? I don't even know you. Besides, you're not exactly good-looking either."

He sighed; he should have seen that coming.

"I'm not going with you so get out of my way," she elbowed her way passed him and he winced before watching her go.

Damn. I guess it wasn't exactly a good idea to start by telling her how ugly she looked, he thought. Muttering something about how there was always tomorrow, Alec headed out of the classroom and took his own advice and skipped his next class.

He wasn't feeling in the mood to listen to his professor go on about the constellations again.
