Prologue
My parents have always said I was special, more special than other kids anyway but it wasn't until I was older that I understood exactly what they meant. Starting the third grade we began to move from house to house and school to school. I just graduated this year and between then and now we have moved to 20 different cities, 6 states, and I have lost track of how many schools. It has always been hard to control my temper and is pretty noticeable especially when the teacher's papers catch fire or when a kid gets thrown across the playground but being a witch isn't as easy as it looks on T.V or in harry potter books. I have yet to hear of any mythological schools to go to and it also doesn't help that both my parents are human which I don't understand.
Chapter one
Myah Mckai
My long red hair swayed and bounced as I jogged my way down the stairs and in to the kitchen. The dark silhouettes of trees sway and dance underneath the full moon that illuminated a bright red. Pulling out the left over spaghetti that was made for dinner from the refrigerator, I transfer the cold squiggly noodles to a bowl and nuke them. Sliding my fingertips along the edge of the counter I wait for the 2 minute countdown to hit 0.
I decide to open the microwave before the timer goes off reducing the chance of my parents coming down and questioning why I'm eating at this hour, but of course my attempt failed.
"Myah is that you?" dad yawned over the banister of the stairs.
"Yeah it's me, I was a little hungry." I whisper back.
"Alright, just make sure your up in time for school. Collage is very expensive, don't want you sleeping threw it."
The old grandfather clock in the living room echoed through the living room and kitchen signaling that it is 12 in the morning.
"Also," he added, "Happy Birthday." His voice trailed off back in to his bed room.
I grabbed my spaghetti and headed back up to my room. Plopping on to my bed I grab the remote to my T.V and turn on an episode of family guy that I recorded.
Being a year older isn't such a big deal I thought, I'm only 20, can't do much. I can't go to Vegas and gamble or even drink.
Slurping my last noodle, I put my bowl on the night stand next to my bed, turn off the T.V and go to sleep.
A blaring alarm made me jump, eyes still shut I reached over to my alarm clock to turn it off, but it didn't. What I saw when opening my eyes was nothing but shear darkness and three red glowing numbers 3:47 a.m. I didn't realize until I sat up that it was the homes security alarm.
Mom always said if the alarm ever goes off to hide and don't make a sound but I couldn't help going and peeking through the crack of my door. The intruders were tall and carried an oddly shaped knife. Tears rolled down my face as the intruders tied my parents up. "Where is she?" the blond intruder asked his voice soothing and intimidating voice rained over my parents as he twirled his knife between his fingers.
"She isn't here." my dad said staying calm and collected which makes the blond guy mad. My mom looks my way as the intruders went inspecting rooms. She signaled for me to go and hide, so I slowly closed the door and wiped away my tears.
In the wall of my closet is a small door that led to a panic room that my parents made in case of emergencies. I push aside a mountain of clothes and shoes and made my way inside the room, secured the door and switched on the cameras. I was able to see every room in the house including mine. The intruders have destroyed the kitchen, living room, den, bathroom, and my parent's room. The only room left was mine.
