And takes a deep breath.
Sees the heart in her teammates' faces,
And the glances from the refs.
She takes a few steps on the court,
Only known as double four.
But the player beneath the number is worth so much more.
See she's risen from the blood,
All that sweat,
And all those tears.

Ringing through her ears..
She refuses to be denied
Three
Two
One
shoot!

From the sound of that swoosh.
The buzzer sounds on her small home court.
The girl who was known as number forty four.
She touches the floor but once more.
For she knows she won't be playing anymore.
The opposing coach shakes her hand and asks for her name.
The girl who put his team to shame.
But all this recognition is not what she desires.
Nor the small town fame.
So she says with a smile,
"Sir, I'm just a player of the game."
