All I remember is high pitched screams coming from the distance. What had happened to the city while I was gone? I'm pretty sure I had only been gone for a couple of hours but then again this has happened before. The sudden shaking of the ground awoke me from my thoughts. Smoke rising from above the line of trees that stood proudly, about half a mile ahead. Ever since Governor Clarrise Clearwater had taken over strange things had started to happen, suddenly people started to go missing or contracting life threatening illnesses. But one night, my family's house was trashed and my parents had gone missing. That's when I decided to leave, leave my past behind me, don't look back unless you want to be dragged back into the swirling vortex of darkness. So I ran, ran as fast as my body was able to. I wasn't sure where I was going but I did know one thing, I had to get away from here and survive.
The trees rushed past me as my body fought to keep going for as long as could. I still hadn't found any other signs of civilisation. The moon was glowing in the sky looking down on me like I was its prey. It felt as though the pine trees where closing in on every side of me like they where going to swallow what was left of my being. "This is going to be a long night" I whispered to myself. I kept walking until the sound of rushing water came into hearing range. I decided to follow it, and before to long I found myself at the foot of a rocky cliff. A few meters up from the bottom there was a small cave like place that I thought was suitable to stay in for the night so I climbed up. I had to admit the only good thing about this journey so far was the fact that the night sky looked beautiful. The stars twinkling seemed to comfort me like I was at home surrounded by darkness but I know I can't let that happen. Not just for my sake but for the rest of the human race...
