Gemini Auras means Twin Aura's in Latin
I woke up in a cold sweat with a head splitting headache. I propped myself up on my elbow and the world started to spin and everything was mushing together. My arm trembled as it was supporting my weight. When the world finally stopped spinning and my headache faded away, I saw the twins. At first glance, you wouldn't be able to tell the were twins. They would look like really good friends but if you examined them closely, you could spot a few similarities.
Kylie had kinky dark brown hair that she wore in two puffy pigtails held in place by small yellow bubbles. Her eyes were brown though, sometimes, they looked like silver had been melted and poured into her eyes whenever the moon hit them just right. Her dark brown skin contrasted greatly with Kyler's pale skin. His honey blond hair was always messy, he never bothered to comb or brush it. He shared the same brown eyes at his sister but when the sun hit them, it was like he's eyes were made of 15-carat gold. He was popular among the girls in town.
"Hey," I tossed the covers off me and muffled a yawn. "What are you guys reading?" I asked. They were usually the ones asking me that question.
At my voice they both looked up. They sat huddled together on Kylie's bed. Kyler slammed the book shut and tossed it over his shoulder.
"Nothing!" he said quickly.
"Nothing?" I asked. "That didn't seem like nothing to me." I crossed my arms and gave him a skeptical look.
"Look," Kylie stood up and stepped in between us. "We were just reading a book we found at the library, it's just a dusty old book."
"Then why can't I see it?" I asked.
Kylie was silent. She opened her mouth but no words came out.
"Let's just tell her, Kylie," Kyler turned and picked up the book. "she's gonna find out sooner or later."
"But what if she tells!" Kylie said.
"She's the one who had the book," Kyler stood up and walked over to his sister. He placed a hand on her shoulder and said, "if anything we could tell on her."
I rolled my eyes and groaned. My eyes drifted over to my nightstand and my eyes widened with horror as I finally realized. The book they were reading was the book I had received from Amele, the book about magick.
I turned back to face the twins and glared at them. "Give me my book." I ordered. "Now."
"We don't have your book!" Kylie was lying right through her teeth. Does she even know what would happen if anybody found out? "I swear!"
"Stop lying!" I said, restraining from pushing her and taking back what was mine. "Give it back to me." I ordered again.
"Kylie," Kyler nudged his sister and handed her the book, my book. "just give it to her."
"But-" Kyler gave her a hard stare and she took the book. "Fine."
She walked over to me and handed me the book. Some of the page tips had been folded, they were marking pages that they wanted to come back to later. I thumbed my way through all the pages until I found the ones with the folded tips. Aura's? Why were they reading about aura's?
"Why were you guys even reading this anyway?" I asked. "Aura's? What would you even wan to know about this stuff?"
"We were just curious and-" Kyler placed his other hand on Kylie's shoulder and she instantly stopped talking.
"We wanted to learn more." Kyler said. "We needed to learn more."
"Why?" I asked. "Why did you need to learn more?"
"Because we need to understand." Kylie said.
"Understand what?!" I said in an exasperated voice.
"Wanna show her?" Kyler asked.
"But what if-" Kylie started but her voice quickly trailed off when she saw her brothers eyes. He was serious about this. "Okay, I guess we can show her."
"Show me what?!" I asked, getting more and more angry by the second.
"This." Kyler took his sister's hand.
I waited and waited . . . and waited. Nothing. Absolutely nothing was happening. At least, that's what I thought before they started to glow. They started to glow. At first the glow was white and faint like a firefly's light. Then the light got brighter and started to take their own unique shape. The glow around Kylie turned into silver liquid that dripped off of her skin. Before it touched the ground, it disappeared. Thin white wisps carried the scent of vanilla that collided with the scent emitting from Kyler. He had a gold light surrounding him, like the soft light from a lit candle. Yellow dots blinked in and out of existence around him and his glow was pulsating.
"What the . . .?" I was at a loss for words.
"Please don't tell anyone!" Kylie pleaded. She steeped forward so fats that the glowing silver liquid flew off her. Good thing it disappeared before it hit the floor because I didn't want to clean that up.
"Don't worry, I won't tell a soul," I promised and Kylie breathed a sigh of relief. "but you guys have some explaining to do."
"Well all we learned is that-" Kyler was cut off by loud rapping on the door.
"I have breakfast!" someone yelled from the other side. Maria.
"Stop your glowy thing!" I whispered. I looked between Kyler and Kylie. They only looked at each other and back at me.
"We don't know how!" Kylie whispered back in a shaky voice.
"I'm coming in!" Maria called.
We all stared at the door, waiting for our impending doom. The knob was rattling and finally the door opened.
"I made french toast!" Maria said as she balanced three plates on a platter. "Your favorite, Dalya and-"
She looked up and finally saw us. The twins glowing and me holding a book that had the word Magick written in flashing gold letters. Obvious evidence that magick had been done, even though none had been performed.
"We can explain!" I blurted out before she could say anything.
But how was I going to explain this without getting in trouble?
