I was surrounded. Zombies everywhere I looked. No escape this time. The zombies closed in, making my will to survive slowly decrease by the second. I killed as many as I could, but they just kept coming . My last resort was the grenade I found earlier, but would I survive? I unlatched it from my belt and pulled the pin. I'd rather die a hero than die a failure and turn into one of them. Zombies tear at my flesh ripping piece by piece away from me. They all come onto me scratching and biting and then it happened.

Thursday, 7:00 am October 24th, 2020.

I wake up abruptly. Beads of sweat pouring down my face. I turn on my phone and check the time. I have an hour before school starts. I turn my phone off and lay back down. The sun shines through my window providing light and a little bit of warmth. I can smell the pine trees that surround my house. The thing about living 10 minutes away from any civilization is that it's always quiet around here and you never need to buy air fresheners.

I get out of bed and grab some clothes out of my dresser in the corner of my room. I just throw on some black jeans and red flannel. I get dressed and go look at myself in the mirror, "Looking good Adam," I say to myself with a stupid smirk on my face. I'm 18 years old, with black hair and glasses. I'm a tall average built person with pale white skin. I wish I was darker, but I don't see the sun too often. I'm one of those guys who stays irnside and games.

I have very little friends. Most of them went to other high schools, while a few of us stayed together. My best friend is Luke Brian, a boy who is a little bit shorter than me. Than I have my girlfriend Kate Feather. She's practically the girl version of me. She has black hair like me and she has no siblings like me. Other than those 2 people I got no one else to care about. My parents both died when I was 7 from a car crash that totaled their car. I was sent to a foster and stayed there for like 8 years until I was adopted. My adoptive parents love me to death, but honestly I don't feel the same. Yea I could be still in that crap foster home, but I also could be in the Bahamas with a rich foster family so it'll do for now.

Now that I finished checking myself out in the mirror I grab my phone and backpack and head downstairs. I ask if anyone's home, but there's no reply. My fosters must be at work so looks like I'm home alone for the next hour until I leave to go to school. I get some food to eat and plop down on the couch and watch some youtube. In no time I have to start getting ready to leave to school. So I get up and put my dishes in the sink and go head towards the front door. I grab my boots and my jacket and start putting them on. I sling my back pack over my shoulder and walk out the door.

I walk to the end of the drive way and pull out my phone to pass the time. I check all my social media while I wait for the bus. Doesn't take long for the bus to show up. So I walk on the bus and find Kate. I walk to the very back and sit next to her. I look across the aisle and see Luke with his girlfriend, Lakeisha. She's an okay looking girl I wouldn't date her or anything, but I guess to Luke she's the prettiest girl he's ever seen. Meaning he obviously doesn't get out much, or use the internet.

"So how's your morning baby?" I ask her.

"Good, you?" Kate replied with a tired yawn.

Immediately after I yawn too. Must of been the fact that I over slept. "You ready for the Halloween Extravaganza at our school tomorrow night?"

"Yea, what time you coming to pick me up at baby?"

"sevenish. Depends if Luke and Lakeisha are ready by the time I pick them up. Knowing Lakeisha she'll probably take an hour just to look like a Barbie. So I'll probably end up picking you up first so be ready for six thirty."

"You don't need to pick me and Lakeisha this year Adam. I got a new car this morning." Luke adds in.

"What is it your grandpa's crap Volkswagen?" I retort. Everyone in our vicinity starts laughing. Luke looks away in embarrassment.

"Don't worry Luke at least you can say you have a car." I tell him trying to make him feel better.

By the time our conversation ends the bus pulls into the school's parking lot. We all exit the bus and enter the school. I breathe through my nose and exhale through my mouth. I love the smell of freshly waxed floors and sweaty jocks. Kate, Luke, Lakeisha, and I all walk towards our lockers. We drop off our stuff at our lockers and say goodbye to each other. Sucks that we all couldn't of been in the same classes. So we say our goodbyes and head towards our classrooms. I have math which is my most hated class. My parents believed I was really smart so they put me in all the academic classes so yea and they refuse to take me out of them because apparently I'm just being lazy.

I walk into math class and right when I walk through the door I get yelled at by my math teacher, Mr. Burns. I ignore him and sit down at the back of the class and pull out my phone. I put in my ear buds and turn on some music. I don't pay attention most the class cause usually I end up getting notes from the guy who normally sits next to me. So the day goes by and I meet up with Kate, Luke, Lakeisha at the end of the day. We all get on the bus and we leave the school. Most the ride I kiss Kate while she'll tries to push me away and tells me to stop. One by one everyone gets off the bus Lakeisha then Luke then Kate. I'm the last one on the bus so I lay in the bus seat quietly and wait for the bus driver to stop.

I get off the bus and enter my house. I walk inside and see my fosters invited some friends and family over. I walk into the kitchen and grab something to eat. I run up the stairs and go in my room ignoring my relatives and family friends. I grab my phone and it on my night stand and take a nap. Few hours later I wake up to the noise of cheering. I try to go back to sleep, but there just too loud. So I decide to text Kate.

"Hey, What's up baby." I text her.

"Nothing you maybe wanna hangout right now?" she replies back.

"Sure Ima come get you than we can go do something"

"Okay babe see you soon I love you bye"

"Love you too bye" I send back. I get in my 1965 Ford Mustang and go to pick up Kate. My parents rarely care about me leaving the house without asking. They always end up sending me texts asking me "Where am I?" or "What are you doing ?" So I pull into Kate's driveway and walk up to her front door. I knock but before I could knock a second time she opens the door and exits her house. I take Kate out for dinner than we drive to a place that we found a few years back. It's the perfect place to be at a certain time of night because it gives you a perfect view of the stars over head. So Kate and I exit the car and lay on the hood. We lay there quietly for a few minutes looking at the stars. Just staring at them lost in their beauty than I look to Kate. She looks beautiful. The way her hair reflected the stars dim light, making it seem as her hair was being illuminated. My favourite part had to be how you could see the stars in her eyes. She was beautiful. It felt like the time I first met her.

She catches my gaze and stares deeply into my eyes. I lean in for a kiss and she does the same our lips meet and I could feel the warmth in her lips. Instantly my body starts to warm up as I touch her face to keep her close to me. Then she pulls away.

"Adam what you doing tonight?" she says to me in a soft voice.

"Being a loner." I reply.

"You should come sleep at my house tonight, baby."

"Okay, what time you want to get out of here."

"Up to you."

Before she could finish what she was saying I kiss her. Not ready for that she didn't have the time to kiss me back.

"Let's get out of here."

So like that we get off the hood of my car and get in it. I drive Kate to her house and I park in her driveway. We walk up to the door and walk through her front door, instantly I'm greeted by her family. Luckily for me I've never done anything to make them hate me or not trust me so they invite me in.

"Adam's staying the night." Kate tells her parents.

"Okay whatever Kate just don't do anything you wouldn't want your mom and me seeing"

"I know dad."

So Kate and I walk upstairs and go into her room. She closes the door behind us. I automatically head for her bed and lay down. She runs over to me and jumps on me taking my breath away. Kate cuddles up next to me and turns on her gaming system. She opens Netflix and turns on a movie for us to watch. I start to feel my eyelids getting heavier and heavier until I can't keep them open, letting myself drift off to sleep with Kate in my arms.
