Something in those words made me suddenly even more afraid than I was and I succeeded in taking a step backwards. But that was as far as I was able to go as the strange feeling that prevented me from moving set back in again. The vampire let a flicker of amusement flash across his pale face before he approached me. His face was very close to mine and if I could move, I would have quickly pulled back, but again, I was paralyzed and it felt almost stronger this time.
"Yes...perfect." The vampire whispered in a hushed tone, his fingers slowly reaching up to brush across my cheek.
His hands were as cold as ice but his skin felt smooth and soft. The moment his skin made contact with mine, a calmness settled inside me. I relaxed and gazed back at the vampire with a curious expression. It was like my entire had been wrapped gently in a warm blanket. Jace was utterly horrified and the odd force that kept him from moving seemed to disappear. He made a quick movement towards us but the vampire suddenly threw out his free arm. Jace was flung against the brick wall of the alley even though the man hadn't touched him. His head cracked hard against the hard brick and he crumpled instantly to the ground. I hadn't looked away from the vampire this entire time, even though a small part of my mind was screaming at me to do something but I didn't. I just stood there, staring in a slight awe at the vampire. His eyes didn't leave mine for a moment. This must be what it was like to be in a trance.
"What a odd coincidence." The vampire said with a soft smile, his finger slowly caressing my cheek. "I was just about to give up."
"What do you mean?" I asked, somehow being able to talk easily now.
The vampire chuckled and his hand lightly touching my hair before it fell back to his side.
"I suppose you ought to know. It is hard for a vampire to die and many become weary of living for so long so there is a special way a vampire could kill itself. They find a special person with potential and turns them into a vampire transferring all their power and skill to the chosen person."
For some reason, I felt no trace of fear even though I know I should have. It was probably the trance.
"I thought if a person was bitten by a vampire they become one." I said simply.
The vampire laughed softly.
"Humans come up with many false things about vampires and that is one of them. A human only becomes a vampire if they drink the blood of one but that still does not make them a pure blood vampire. In order for that to happen, their blood must be drained and replaced with that of the vampire's."
Finally, I felt a prickle of terror at this and the vampire watched me very closely as he saw the flicker of fear spread through my eyes. His face was completely expressionless as he watched me. I struggled against the thing holding me still but I was far to weak to break it's grip. The vampire lifted his hand again and touched the side of my face. There was a strong surging feeling and again, I was calm and relaxed.
"I've been very picky about the person I was going to choose and you are perfect." He said, a slow but wide smile spreading across his face.
The smile pulled his lips back and my heart skipped a beat as I saw the long white fangs. His fingers had slid down to my neck and I felt soft tingles run under my skin. The vampire smirked slightly and stepped even closer to me.
"I should probably warn you that this will hurt, but you still won't understand how much." He said, leaning down until his lips were almost touching my neck. "I also can't promise that I'll make it fast."
He lightly touched his icy lips to the skin of my neck and I felt a cold rush run through my body. I knew what was coming but I couldn't do anything to stop it. His arms slowly slid around me, pulling me closer to him and I felt his mouth open. My entire body tensed in anticipation. His fangs sunk into my neck and I felt them slid in deep. The pain was nothing like I had imagined and it seemed to break the thing that was keeping me calm and still. Snapping back to my senses, I let out a shriek of pain and horror but the monster was holding onto me firmly with his strong arms. I tried to struggle but I could barely move. He was terrifyingly strong and I felt so horribly helpless. My own blood was gushing down my neck as the monster began hungrily feasting on it. My screams spilled from my throat but no one came. The pain would not stop; it felt like my body was exploding. The vampire didn't let me go for what felt like a lifetime.
