I took a deep breath for probably the millionth time this afternoon. I was at a quiet BBQ and drinks with friends and my long time best friend and crush, Scarlett. I had decided that today was the day that I would work out if she had any romantic feelings for me as I did with her. I would be drinking tonight so not only will it give me a boost of confidence but also give me something to blame my actions on if it didn't work out.

Now,ordinarily for these events I wouldn't put much effort into how I looked but, tonight was special and I needed a secret weapon. I was dressed in a knee length lacy beige summer dress with gold sandals and a navy cardigan. My hair was curled and I had actually done a good job on my make up.

When Scarlett arrived, I was standing by the gas cooker and talking with Chris while sipping a Cider. She looked beautiful in her dark purple maxi dress with her hair tied in a loose ponytail. Chris gave me a nudge with his elbow and gestured that I should go talk to her so, I walked over to her while grinning.

"Hey,you're late but you look great so I guess you're forgiven" I say with a smirk. She scoffs and rolls her eyes playfully.

"Thank goodness, your majesty. I was afraid I would lose my head" She chuckles. "Seeing as I'm so late, what have we got to drink?"

"Come with me, the selection is over here" I say as I take her hand and lead her over to where the cold box is.

~Time skip because I'm lazy~

It was almost dark by now and I'd had four drinks while Scarlett was on her second. We had just been talking about a story I heard about a kid dressed as Captain America for Halloween. We were quiet now so I just sat and watched her with a smile, observing how her hair fell around her face, how her eyes moved around the party and how her lips formed around her drink.

I shifted in my chair slightly to stretch my arms when the song changed to one with a slow pace. The sound of the soft guitar drifted over the party creating a calm mood. Scarlett stood suddenly and held her hand out to me. I just looked up at her beautiful smiling face with confusion.

"Come on, lets dance Y/N. I promise I'll look after you" She grinned and I swear I saw a small blush cover her cheeks.

I stood slowly, taking her soft hand in mine when she pulled me close to her in one quick movement. I gasped, my eyes wide in shock but she simply smirked and slid her hand to my waist. We began to sway in time to the music, her hand keeping us close and her eyes focused on mine. I bit my lip nervously.

"Are you okay?" she whispered in my ear "Let me know if you get dizzy"She lightly pressed her lips to my jaw before moving back to twirl me.

"I didn't drink that much" I say in protest. Surely she knew me well enough by now to know that I could handle a little dancing.

"I wasn't talking about the alcohol Y/N. I know very well how you feel about me" She said with a slight smirk.

I look at her in surprise. I swear, if Robert blabbed to her after I swore him to secrecy, he would wish he had an Iron Man suit to hide in.

"What has Robert been saying?" I asked.

"Don't blame him" She said quickly "Yes, he did tell me but I suspected anyway." She paused, looking at me and biting her lip.

"I really hope you like me, Y/N because I've liked you for some time now."

I couldn't believe it. Scarlett just confessed that she likes me, this can't be real.

"Am I dreaming?" I whisper as she starts to look discouraged. Scarlett chuckles.

"No,this is very real"

"Well,in that case, Scarlett, I really like you too." I grin and she tucks some hair behind my ear.

"Good"she whispers before leaning in slowly.

She presses her lips to mine and hesitates for a moment.I smile and wrap my arms around her waist. Scarlett then begins to move her lips against mine and I follow suit. The soft sound of the guitar flows around us and our lips dance for us.

When we pull apart Chris H. cheers, holding up his drink and the others follow with applause.

"We're in the company of idiots" I laugh

"That may be but, I don't care" She says as she kisses me on the cheek.
