"Please don't leave me." My grandmother whispered as she squeezed my hand tighter.
"I'm sorry. I have to go to work." I bit my lip to keep from crying. "I'll be back as soon as I get out." I kissed her forehead. "Now go back to sleep." She shut her eyes and within seconds was back to sleep.
I let out a sigh and left the house. I've been watching her for the past two weeks. All she's done is lay in bed and once in a while attempt a conversation but she's just too weak.
I deep bad leaving her alone, but it's nice getting a break from her, even if it is just to go to work.
I got into my car and turned the radio off. I needed quiet time. Apparently that wasn't going to happen though, my phone started ringing.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey Nikki." My boyfriend, Chris, replied.
I bit my lip again. "What's up?"
"Nothing. Waiting for my girlfriend." I could hear the smirk in his voice.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm sorry. I have to work. Then I have to go back to my grandma."
"Ugh it's always grandma and work. Work and grandma. What about ne? What about-"
I hung up on him. I was tired of the arguing and sick of his complaining.
I shoved my phone I'm my pocket and drove the rest of the way to the coffee shop.
"Hey Nik!" My coworker, Nat, greeted me from behind the counter.
"Hey." I smiled and went to the back where I retrieved my apron. I checked my phone one last time before shutting it off.
"You'll pay for that ;) -Chris"
I know what's gonna happen. He'll yell at me for a while and then try to kiss and make up. It's been this way for the past two years. I haven't had the heart to break it off. Or the nerve. I just dealt with it.
"What's up? You look like you just saw a ghost." Nat asked.
"I'm fine." I put on a smile. "Just need some sleep." I shrugged.
"Okay I gotta get out of here." She blew a kiss and ran out the door.
It was two so the rush would come soon. I sighed and sat on a stool behind the counter.
Just as I predicted the rush came. The line was almost out the door. I served the people as fast as I possibly could.
I was making the coffee of the last person in line, when I heard the bell above the door jingle and footsteps walking in.
"I'll be with you in a minute." I said as I started making the coffee.
Someone tapped the bell on the counter. I heard a giggle and they tapped it again.
"I said I'll be with you in a minute." A tone of aggravation was in my voice.
The bell continued to song and whoever it was continued to giggle. I finished off the coffee and handed it to the customer at the pickup counter. I went back to the coffee machine and cleaned it up a little. if these people were gonna be Ass holes I was going to be one back.
The bell continued to ding and I decided enough was enough. I turned around and took the bell off the counter and threw it in the garbage.
"What the hell can I get you?!" I screamed. I opened my eyes and was staring into the face of Frank Iero.
