Slowly, I open my eyes. Hailey's by my side.
"Are you alright? I'm so sorry!"
I wave her off and try to stand. Bad idea. Everything's spinning and too bright. Hailey grabs me as I start to sway.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," I try to shake her off, but her grip remains firm.
"Just lean on me."
The quad is a wreck behind us. It smashed into a post, shattering the camera and denting the rotors. Corey's still shouting at Ryan. Mr. F directs everyone to start packing up what's left of the quads. Together, we struggle back to the classroom.
"Are you okay?"
Looking into those beautiful blue eyes, I know I'll never be okay again. She is the one. I can feel it. But there's no way she'd go for a guy like me. She's too far out of my league. So much unlike any other girl in the world: smart, beautiful, kind, honest,... I could go on and on. Life without her can only be a shadow of what it would be like with her.
Instead, I say, "I'll be fine, don't worry about me."
As she drives away, I feel the knife sinking into my heart.
