Chapter 1: Out of Place

"It's not like I'm walking alone into the valley of the shadow of death

Stand beside one another, 'cause it ain't over yet

I'd be willing to bet that if we don't back down..."

Stretching my arms out, I rubbed my eyes and squinted at my phone. 5:45. Oh right, school today! I hopped out of bed and ran to the bathroom, shocked at what was staring back at me in the mirror. Trevor had done wonders! My long hair now looked like a fierce fire! Ah fuck, this was so cool. Deciding to be even more spontaneous than usual, I curled the ends of my hair and put on a bit of makeup. Normally I'm not munch for make up, but this was such a big difference, I might as well go all out! No over the top, but so it doesn't look too awkward. I put on a few coats of masacara and used a bit of eyeliner, only to where my iris ended. On top of the eyeliner I did a thin layer of silver sparkly eyeliner to make my grayish-blue eyes pop. I think that's good...

Walking out of my bathroom and towards my closest I inspected my clothing options. I felt my hear sink as I realized what had happened to my favorite shirt. Oh god, no. I won't have a break down. I fucking refuse. Feeling a sudden burst of anger, I rummaged through looking for a shirt that described my mood better. Normally I probably would've chosen a Slipknot shirt... but since I didn't have that anymore....

Ah. This would do. I pulled my Suicide Silence shirt out and threw it on(R.I.P. Mitch, you were great!). I threw on a pair of red skinny jeans and a pair of high black boots. Not bad. I tried smiling into my mirror. It didn't reach my face fully, but I looked like a different person. Fiercer, maybe. I felt more confident. More...how I always wanted myself to be. I shot myself a real grin and grabbed my bag from the floor, skipping out of my room and downstairs. I saw Kayenne sitting in her usually spot, waiting to be fed. I kissed her on the forehead, hopping around the kitchen, preparing her usual waffle with peanut butter and syrup. She looked at me weirdly.

"What's wrong with you today? And OMG you're hair is fucking cool!" She excalimed, happily.

"Hey, no swearing!" Trevor shouted, coming into the room. When his eyes met mine he smiled and walked up to me. "See? You look so gorgeous. I mean, my hair dying skills are so amazing, am I right?" He smirked, earning a high five from Kayenne. I rolled my eyes and served the two their breakfast.

"You guys can shut up and eat." I stated simply/.

"Aren't you gonna eat that?" Kay asked, eyeing my food. I started at it. My apetite wasn't so large at the moment... I would probably throw it back up.

"Uhhh...No," I paused, seeing her eye my plate hungrily. "You can have it K" I pushed my plate towards her direction.

"Thanks Nix!" She replied in delight. Trevor however eye me worringly. You okay? He mouthed. I hook my head. I was fine, right?

No.

I was great. I was going to be a new person today. I shook my head again, this time more confidently. A smile slowly spread its way across his face.

We dropped Kay off at her middle school and headed to the high school. When we arrived, Trevor parker the car and just sat there, staring at nothing. Suddenly, he turned towards me and put a hand on my shoulder.

"Will you really be okay today?" He asked, a look of concern crossing his handsome features. I sighed.

"Yeah, I'll be fine. If someone bothers me, I'll get Cameron to beat them up." I joked, but he didn't have a sign of humor across his face.
