That's the Story of Life (Poem)

You are young.

You don't understand nor are you wise.

You laugh, you sleep, you poop and pee,

That's the life of a small, precious baby.

The age you are, is now only four.

You don't have responsibilities,

nor do you have chores.

The life that is given to you is fairly easy,

But now is not the time to realize that.

You laugh, you sleep, you cry and weep.

That is the life of the young.

You are now the age of ten.

You know how to clean your sheets,

Tie your shoes and make your bed.

Your parents taught you,

What you needed to know,

They only hope you have listened.

They shake their heads at stupid things,

While laughing at you silly beings.

You laugh, you smile,

But of course you only listen awhile.

That is the life of a small one.

The age you are, is now sixteen.

You ignore the comments of your family,

Because you think they are wrong.

Your mind is set, it's not going to be changed,

All the while your parents and sister are being deranged.

You fight with your family,

You think 'who cares.'

But your parents are wondering,

'What happened to the rules we taught?'

Did they go down the drain when our baby was distraught?

You've been driven to drugs, by your peers.

Didn't you realize that was your worst fear?

You fight, you cry, you rebel and weep.

That is the life of a teenager.

You are now the age of forty.

You have learnt your lesson,

And you have learnt well.

What you were taught is still definitely there.

They passed through your mind,

But still waited,

to the day where you would pass them on.

Life has been rough, you know it has,

But never regret your past.

You may have done wrong,

You may have disobeyed your orders,

you might have even harmed yourself.

That wasn't the answer,

You know that now.

It wasn't easy,

That's for sure,

But now you understand,

The meaning of life.

Know in the end,

Everything always turns out.

No matter how tragic, how ridiculous,

your past has been.

You now laugh, you cry tears of happiness,

And you laugh at the same pattern

your daughter has started at the age of 1,

You can now stop this because you know what is going on.

That's the story of life.
