Introduction
The cold, dark hallway stretched on before Conlo. He had walked the hall so many times that he began to memorize the pattern of cracks and holes in the side of the rock walls. He stopped in front of the same door he did everyday and pondered the question he always wondered, why was he still here. Conlo twisted the cold brass handle and slowly slid open the door. To his surprise the office was empty. The only light left in the building was on over the top of the desk in the office. Conlo knew this was a lucky break for him. He charged to the back of the desk and whipped open the cabinet door on the desk. A pile of papers plopped out onto the floor. Conlo shuffled through the papers until he found what he wanted, a cream colored folder with the word 'power' along the front and back.
"Now is our chance to strike against the resistance!" A voice boomed from down the hall heading closer on every word.
Conlo knew he had to move quick or he would be caught. Holding the folder under his arm, Conlo ran to the side door. Locked. Conlo thought about his options, his eyes moving frantically around the room.
Conlo dropped the folder as he saw the handle slowly rotate, and the door open. He clenched his eyes shut and waited for the end.
Chapter 1
"We're live at the scene of the once busy street known to most as the only way to get to the city. Moments ago the passers by claim to have felt a heavy shake originating from deep underground. We... wait.... breaking news! We have word from the local authorities that everyone is to be evacuated from the area immediately. Woah!" The bridge began to rock and shake back and forth, "what's happening?!"
From his upstairs window Niel could see the action as it happened. The bridge caved in from the middle, and a strange, green creature appeared for no more than a minute.
"So you claim to have seen... a giant green monster thingy destroy the bridge?" The man began to laugh, "You're crazy boy!"
Niel walked out of the police station quiet and broken. He walked around the corner into an alley. A hand reached out of the shadows and rested on Niel's shoulder.
"This way Mr. Saloto," said the man as he started to drag Niel down the alley. Niel pulled back and readied his fists for a fight.
"Who are you and how do you know my name?!" Niel yelled at the man still shrouded in shadows.
"There is a lot I need to explain, Niel."
The man stepped out of the shadows revealing a mechanical looking suit. Behind the mask Niel could see a familiar face.
"Conlo? It can't be, you're..."
"Dead?" asked Conlo interrupting Niel, "No, i'm alive and kicking, now come on, we have to go before they find you."
"Who are 'they'? What happened? I must be going crazy! I was at your funeral!"
"All you need to know for now is that i'm here and someone wants you dead, i'm here to stop them," explained Conlo.
.Conlo grabbed Niel's arm and pulled him into the shadows.
"This way!" Yelled a voice from a distance up the road, "I saw him go in here!"
From the dark alley Niel could hear the footsteps heading towards the police station next to them. There was a long moment of silence before they heard glass shatter. The sound of gunshots rang in Niel's ears.
"This way, hurry," whispered Conlo motioning further into the alleyway.
Niel didn't argue, he knew he had to go. 'What was happening? Who were these people and what did they want with me?' Niel wondered.
