I woke up to dad yelling my name. " Get up Emma! ". I lay back down in bed and sighed. Today was the first day of the long road ahead of us. " C'mon Emma! We have to leave in an hour and you'd better be ready! We are not missing this plane. " mum yelled from downstairs. I slowly sat up and dragged myself out of bed to the bathroom where I put on my make up and comfiest clothes, then carried the rest of my bags downstairs. To my surprise Linda was waiting with mum and dad for me. " I made you breakfast honey " mum said cheerfully. I walked down the stairs and grabbed it from her on my way past. " You have to skype me everyday! " Linda sobbed. She looked at my feet and saw the bags I had dropped " I'll help you carry those out to the car "she offered. She grabbed a bag from me and we walked over and put them in the large car. " So this is really it? " Linda says as tears start to build up in her eyes " I guess it is " I reply. Linda wraps her arms around me and starts to cry, she holds me tight and says that everything will be okay. I take a deep breathe and say goodbye to my best friend. We get in the car and I look out my window and watch as we leave my hometown. Sydney, Australia.
Dad drove into the carpark at the airport, returning the car he had hired. I put my bags onto a big trolley and wheeled them into the terminal. I waited for mum and dad inside and brought a packet of chips from the vending machine. I lined up at the check in line and sat down and ate my chips. Mum and dad walked in and joined me, we put our bags through a machine and walked through some frame that told a computer what items we had on us. I had to take my rings and shoes of before I was aloud to walk through.
We sat down in the waiting area, mum was nibbling on some chocolate biscuits she had just brought. " Could I have one " I asked, Mum glared at me " Only one, they were 8 dollars a packet! ". The biscuit was dry and flavourless. An announcement came over the P.A. and interrupted us " Flight 1-80 to Florida is boarding now at gate 4. " we all looked at each other and walked over to one of the flight attendants taking our flight, she scanned our tickets as we walked past. I made sure I got the window seat, I always loved staring out of plane Windows and watching as the world goes by. The plane started filling up quickly and before I knew it, it was almost time to leave.
The engines roared as we took of into the sky. My eyelids fell heavy as I drifted of to sleep.
Boom!
I awoke to turbulence. It took me a moment to remember where I was, panic filled my body. I tucked my legs up into a ball and cuddled my travel pillow. Taking big breathes one of the flight attendants noticed and walked over. " Are you okay ma'am? " she asked politely " Yes I think so " I replied. " we will be landing soon, could you please remove you feet from the chair? ". I smiled and placed my feet back on the ground, mum and dad were still asleep. " Is this just turbulence? " I asked her as the plane jolted. " Yes ma'am, turbulence is quite common and isn't anything to worry about. I nodded in agreement. She smiled at me then left to talk to another passenger. I put my earphones in and closed my eyes, I couldn't help but think of all the people I just left behind.
